Navy Pier New Year's Eve 2026 Hotels, With the Walk Back at 12:15

Navy Pier's fireworks page puts the New Year's Eve show at 11:59 pm on 31 December 2026, and says it's free. We checked 19 hotels within a 26-minute walk of the pier, and 16 sold 31 December as a single night. The nearest of those is the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, 14 minutes on foot from the pier's front door. Two closer hotels turned down 31 December alone and sold it with 30 December added. The hotel on the pier turned down all four New Year's stays we tried.

Everything here is for the 2026 season, and every availability check was made on 27 October 2026. We opened each hotel's own booking page and asked for one room for two adults, 31 December to 1 January. We stopped at the rate list, or at the InterContinental, at IHG's search list. When a hotel said no, we tried longer stays, and at two hotels a January night as a check. The fees come from our own hotel pages, which we took from each booking screen on 21 October, and where the 27 October screen showed a fee too, we quote its words. Walk times are OpenStreetMap foot routes from each hotel's address to the pier's front door at 600 East Grand Avenue on a normal day, so they know nothing about New Year's Eve crowds or closures. Availability can change from one day to the next.

Sold 31 December alone

Sixteen hotels, 14 to 26 minutes from the pier. Eight are in our Magnificent Mile and Streeterville area and eight in River North. Every "no fee" below was read on a booking screen.

Marriott's screen read "Includes 30 USD Destination Fee" at three of them. The Sheraton Grand, 301 East North Water Street, is the nearest of the 16, 14 minutes away (1,029 meters). The Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, 540 North Michigan Avenue, is 17 minutes (1,279 meters). At both, the fee comes to $35.67 a night with the 18.9% tax. The third is The Westin Chicago River North, 320 North Dearborn Street, the farthest of the 16 at 26 minutes (1,973 meters). Room tax is charged on its fee too.

Two River North hotels booked through Marriott put a $25 destination fee inside the rate. The RIVVY, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, 55 East Ontario Street, is 18 minutes away (1,382 meters). Hotel Chicago Downtown, Autograph Collection, 333 North Dearborn Street, is 24 (1,817 meters). Both screens read "Includes 25 USD Destination Fee", and room tax applies to the fee at both. The RIVVY's own site advertises a Fee Free Offer for direct bookings.

IHG's search list had a rate for the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, 16 minutes away at 505 North Michigan Avenue (1,187 meters). We saw only that list, so the fee wasn't checked on 27 October. Our page for the hotel lists a $29.81 a night amenity fee plus tax, $35 with tax.

At the Omni Chicago Hotel, 676 North Michigan Avenue, Omni's own booking page listed 3 room options and read "Includes $28 Per Night Destination Charge". It's 19 minutes on foot (1,446 meters).

Rooms were on sale at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago, another Marriott screen, and it showed no fee on 21 October or on 27 October. The hotel is at 160 East Pearson Street at Water Tower Place, also 19 minutes out (1,391 meters).

Three hotels 21 minutes away all had rooms. The Peninsula Chicago is at 108 East Superior Street (1,578 meters) and the Park Hyatt Chicago at 800 North Michigan Avenue (1,584 meters). At the Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown River North, 600 North State Street (1,594 meters), Hilton's screen said "9 rooms found". None of the three showed a fee when we read their booking screens on 21 October, and at the Peninsula only room tax was added.

For 31 December, Hilton's screen at The Drake Hotel said "12 rooms found". It's 22 minutes away (1,648 meters), at 140 East Walton Place. Hilton's booking screen showed no resort fee when we read it on 21 October.

Four River North hotels between 23 and 25 minutes out had rooms and showed no fee. The Langham, Chicago, 330 North Wabash Avenue, and Aloft Chicago Downtown River North, 515 North Clark Street, are both 23 minutes away (1,711 and 1,759 meters). Hyatt Place Chicago/River North, 66 West Illinois Street, is 24 (1,770 meters), and Moxy Chicago Downtown, 530 North LaSalle Drive, is 25 (1,885 meters). The Aloft and Moxy screens showed no fee line on 27 October as well. For the Langham and Hyatt Place we have the 21 October read.

Two nearer hotels sold New Year's Eve with 30 December added

The Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile, 511 North Columbus Drive, is 11 minutes from the pier (789 meters). For 31 December alone, Hilton's screen answered "Sorry, we don't have any rooms available for those dates." For 30 December to 1 January it said "23 rooms found" and "Price includes $25.00 USD mandatory charge", which our page for the hotel gives as $25 a night plus tax.

Loews Chicago Hotel, 455 North Park Drive, is 12 minutes away (888 meters). Its own booking page answered "No rooms available" for 31 December alone and showed rooms for 30 December to 1 January. It also showed rooms for 13 to 14 January 2027, a night we tried as a check, so the page isn't refusing every date. Our page for Loews lists a $30 a night destination fee plus tax, which applies to select rates and reservations.

We tried no other New Year's stay at either, so we don't know whether 31 December to 2 January would sell. If you want one of these two, search 30 December to 1 January.

The one on the pier

Sable at Navy Pier, 900 East Grand Avenue, is on the pier itself, 10 minutes (764 meters) from its door to the pier's front door. For 31 December alone, Hilton's page answered "Sorry, we don't have any rooms available for those dates." It gave the same answer for three longer stays around it. A night on 13 to 14 January 2027 did sell, with "19 rooms found" and "Price includes $29.00 USD mandatory charge" on the screen. That charge is $29 a night plus tax.

The two we couldn't check

We couldn't read the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, because its booking page answered "We are sorry but we are experiencing some technical difficulty" when we asked for 31 December. The Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago couldn't be read either, because its booking address returned 404 Not Found. We have no walk time for either, and neither is counted in the 19.

The fireworks, and the walk back

New Year's Eve falls inside Wintrust Winter WonderFest, which runs at the pier from Friday 27 November, 10:00 am, to Sunday 3 January 2027. As of 27 October the pier's pages gave no viewing spots, hours, access or crowd plan for New Year's Eve 2026, so we can't tell you where to stand or how getting in and out will work. The show is at 11:59 pm, so your walk back starts after midnight. Navy Pier's pages give no hours for the night, so 12:15 is our pick. Leave the front door then, and at a normal day's pace the Sheraton Grand's 14 minutes get you in at 12:29 and the Westin's 26 at 12:41.
