Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Service is what people talk about after a stay at the Peninsula: the turndown, and staff who stay polite. Rooms are very clean, and a tablet in each one runs the lights and room service. The Chinese restaurant and the renovated spa get praise too. Complaints are few, which also means the sample is thin. The ones that do come up are the prices, which are very high, and a front desk that a few guests found slow or cool. On the hotel's own booking screen the only line under the rate was room taxes, and it came to exactly 18.9% of the rate. Nothing else was added. A car is the extra to plan for. Overnight valet is $85 per car per night by the hotel's own FAQ, which also says there is no free parking, so three nights with a car add $255 before any tax. The garage clears 6 feet 8 inches. Pets up to 50 pounds are allowed, two to a room, for a non-refundable $350 plus tax per pet per stay up to 30 pounds and $500 plus tax from 31 to 50. You must be 18 to check in.
