The Drake sells history and a view of the lake, and its rooms show their age. Guests also find the rooms roomy and clean. Dated rooms and bathrooms are still the complaint that comes up most, and some rooms look out on a fire escape. Hilton's booking screen found 19 rooms for a Wednesday night in December and 18 for the Thursday, and none of them carried a mandatory charge, so Chicago's 18.9% room tax is the only thing added to the rate. Hilton's page for the hotel lists self-parking at $58 a day and valet at $82. Three nights come to $174 self-parked or $246 with valet, which makes self-parking $72 cheaper over a long weekend. The page doesn't say whether tax is added to either. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is noon. Dogs are allowed, up to two in a room. Hilton's page gives no pet fee, so ask the hotel what it charges before you bring one. The Water Tower is a five-minute walk.
