Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The InterContinental's indoor pool sits 14 stories above the Magnificent Mile in a building that went up in 1929, and the pool and the lobby are what reviewers remember. The hotel belongs to Historic Hotels of America, and its own page mentions secret speakeasies. Reviewers also bring up street noise and gaps in upkeep. Every night carries an amenity fee of $29.81 before tax, $35 with it. It covers local calls, pressing of two items with a 24-hour turnaround and PressReader. The movies and refreshments it includes at the pool run only on Fridays and Saturdays, so a midweek guest pays for them and never sees them. The hotel's parking is valet at $88 a night, for registered guests only, and the rate holds until 5 p.m. on the day you leave, with extra charges after that. For self-parking it sends you to SpotHero. Three nights with a car add $105 in fees and $264 in valet, $369 on top of the room before any tax on parking. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m., and you must be 21 to check in. Pets are allowed for $150 a stay.
