The deals site that tells you the catch

SuddenStay started with a Tuesday night in September, a $260 "deal" on a big booking site, and a walk down Gulf Boulevard that found the same class of room for $110, no resort fee, better beach, free happy hour. The discount economy around hotels is full of theater: inflated strikethrough prices, countdown timers, "only 1 room left!" Almost none of it reflects what rooms actually cost on a given night.
We're built on a simpler idea: last-minute travelers deserve the real number and the real story.Every hotel on this site gets a straight take: who it's actually for, what the vibe is, and what the catch is, because there is always a catch. When the catch is a construction crew or a weak wifi signal, we say so, in plain English, above the booking button.
Why the Gulf Coast?
Because it's home. SuddenStay is written from St. Petersburg by Matt Spaulding, who has spent two decades of summers between Pass-a-Grille and Clearwater, and who knows which "beachfront" hotels actually front the beach, which pool decks catch afternoon shade, and which tiki bar pours the honest pour. Big travel sites cover ten thousand cities from nowhere in particular. We cover one coastline from inside it, and it shows in the details.
How we make money
When you book through our links, the booking site may pay us a commission. It never costs you extra, and it never changes what we say about a hotel. The full picture is on our disclosure page. The short version: we only make money if you find a deal worth booking, which keeps our incentives pointed the same direction as yours.
What we'll never do
- Show an inflated "was" price to fake a discount.
- Rank a hotel higher because it pays a better commission.
- Bury the catch. It goes in the honest take, every time.
- Blast your inbox. Deal alerts fire when rates drop, and otherwise stay silent.
