Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The Chicago Marriott Downtown behaves like a convention hotel, and it sits on the shopping stretch itself at 540 North Michigan. The Water Tower is nine minutes away on foot. Staff and clean rooms are the most common praise. Reviews describe a loud lobby during big events and long waits at check-in and for a bellhop, and room upkeep is the largest cluster of complaints. Many of the reviews date from 2016 to 2019. Some guests heard the street late at night. A Reviver cocktail bar sits in the lobby, and the hotel has a business center on site. The rooms page also sells a Suite and Savor package with a $100 dining credit per night. Pets are not allowed. Every night carries a $30 destination fee, which is $35.67 with 18.9% tax and $107.01 over three nights. Self-parking on site is $62 a day and valet is $80, with off-site parking nearby, and reviews call parking a hassle. Three nights self-parked take the extras to $293.01, or $347.01 with valet. The driveway entrance is at 541 North Rush Street, and that is the address to put in the GPS.
