Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
No hotel in this part of Chicago is closer to the Water Tower than the Park Hyatt, two minutes from its door at 800 North Michigan. Hyatt's booking screen listed rooms with no fee attached, so Chicago's 18.9% room tax is the only thing added to the rate. Street and neighbor noise at night is the complaint reviewers raise most often, which comes with sitting on Michigan Avenue. Some guests also find the beds and decor dated, and the service more formal than warm. Parking is valet, priced by the hour. An overnight guest falls in the 7-to-24-hour tier at $82, which includes unlimited in and out, so three nights with a car add $246, and the hotel's page doesn't say whether tax goes on top. The garage clears 6 feet 5 inches. NoMI guests can park for $30 for up to four hours. Dogs up to 50 pounds stay for $150, and stays of 7 to 30 nights add a second $150 cleaning fee. A rollaway bed is $50 a night plus tax. Check-in is 4 p.m. and check-out is noon.
