Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
River views get the first mention in reviews of the Sheraton Grand, which stands on East North Water Street by the Chicago River, 17 minutes on foot from the Water Tower. The beds and the staff draw praise. Cleanliness reports are mixed. The hotel has an indoor pool, though an older review says it needs upgrades, and it takes up to two pets per room, up to 75 pounds each. A few reports describe a rude front desk agent. Guests complain that the fees and the overall cost do not match the facilities. The $30 nightly destination fee is taxed at 18.9%, which makes it $35.67 a night. Self-parking on site is $75 a day, and guests call parking inconvenient as well as expensive. Parking for four nights comes to $300, and with $142.68 in fees that is $442.68 beyond the room. Reviews also say in-room Wi-Fi and breakfast cost extra, so even that figure is not the whole bill.
