Congress and the courts being out of session is the reason a 2016 TravelPulse piece gave for DC's weekend discounts, and CoStar's December 2024 headline credited weekday demand for the city's occupancy gains. When the business hotels go quiet at weekends, leisure guests make up the demand. We found no current weekday and weekend split to put percentages on. One old AirfareWatchdog post had a Thursday-to-Monday stay coming in far cheaper a night than a stay starting Monday, and that is a single trip. By month, Lonely Planet ranks January through March cheapest, February first. Momondo's data points to August.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival's homepage and Destination DC give March 20 to April 11, 2027, for its 100th anniversary, though the title of the festival's own events page says March 12 to April 10. Peak bloom has come as early as March 15 and as late as April 18. Petalpalooza is at Navy Yard on Saturday, April 3, and the parade follows a week later, April 10, on Constitution Avenue. On Friday, January 22, 2027, March for Life ends on Capitol Hill the same day the Auto Show opens at the Convention Center. July 4, 2027 is a Sunday. The Independence Day Parade runs on Constitution Avenue that day, though its program and the fireworks are still unpublished.
Valet or garage parking at the hotels runs $50 to $70 a night, and the Union Station garage lists a $26 daily maximum and $52 for 26 to 48 hours. Metrorail costs $2.25 to $6.75 a ride on weekdays before 9:30 PM and $2.25 to $2.50 after that and on weekends. Two booking screens state a hotel fee separate from the District's 15.95% room tax: $35 at the Hyatt Regency and $37 at the Kimpton George. Phoenix Park's taxes-and-fees line works out to the tax plus its $32 facility fee. Three fold $30 to $30.18 into the rate they list. Five showed none. The Royal Sonesta lists a $35 daily destination fee on its own site. If you use the Union Station garage, the Capitol Hill Hotel's parking page notes it has no in-and-out privileges.
Lonely Planet names January through March as the cheapest stretch, February above all. Momondo's data says August. We found no source tying August to the congressional recess. Two January dates break the cheap stretch here: March for Life ends on Capitol Hill on Friday, January 22, 2027, and the Auto Show runs January 22 to 31 at the Convention Center. The cherry blossom festival's homepage gives March 20 to April 11, 2027.
Six of the eleven booking screens we read. Phoenix Park charges $32 a night (the hotel says tax is included), the Hyatt Regency $35 and the Kimpton George $37, which is $42.90 with tax. YOTEL's $30.18, the Morrow's $30.00 and the Capitol Hill Hotel's $30 sit inside the rate each screen lists. The Hyatt Place, the Hilton Washington DC Capitol Hill, the Hilton Garden Inn, citizenM and the Courtyard showed none. The Royal Sonesta's booking screen could not be read, but its own site lists a $35 daily destination fee plus taxes.
$50 to $70 a night at the nine hotels that list a price. The Capitol Hill Hotel's limited valet is $50 and YOTEL's self-parking is $50. The Hilton Garden Inn and the Courtyard are $55, the Royal Sonesta and the Morrow $65, Phoenix Park and the Kimpton George $68, and the Hilton Washington DC Capitol Hill $70. citizenM has no parking. We could not confirm a rate for the Hyatt Regency or the Hyatt Place, because Hyatt's pages did not load. The Union Station garage lists a $26 daily maximum.
15.95% on the room. The District's tax office states that rate for April 1, 2023 through March 30, 2027 and gives none after that date. DC has no government-imposed resort fee, so any destination or amenity fee is the hotel's own. Kimpton's screen itemized $5.90 of tax on its $37 fee, and Phoenix Park says its $32 fee already includes tax.
By rail to Union Station. From BWI, take the free airport shuttle to the BWI rail station, then a train south: about 30 minutes by Amtrak and 35 by MARC, per BWI's own page. Union Station also connects to Metrorail, VRE, the DC Streetcar and Capital Bikeshare. Metrorail runs until midnight Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and until 2 AM on Friday and Saturday nights. Capitol South is about a block from the Capitol Hill Hotel, and the NoMa-Gallaudet U station is 0.10 mile from the Hilton Garden Inn.
Phoenix Park and the Kimpton George are 4 minutes on foot, the Royal Sonesta and the Hilton Washington DC Capitol Hill 5, YOTEL 7 and the Hyatt Regency 8. The Hilton Garden Inn is 14, citizenM 15, the Morrow 16, the Hyatt Place 18, the Courtyard 19 and the Capitol Hill Hotel 21. Walks are timed by the street route.
