The Society for Neuroscience meeting fills the Convention Center from 14 to 18 November 2026. Capital One Arena adds weekend nights: 19 of the Capitals' 42 home games fall Friday to Sunday. Gallery Place station is at the arena, and Metro Center station opens into the Grand Hyatt's lobby. Citywide, DC is a weekday market. A CoStar headline from December 2024 credits weekday demand for the city's occupancy growth, and a 2016 TravelPulse piece puts weekend discounts down to Congress and the courts being out of session. We found no night-by-night occupancy for this district.
Rock 'n' Roll DC holds its expo in the Convention Center on 18 and 19 March 2027 and runs the half marathon on the 20th, the day the National Cherry Blossom Festival opens for a run to 11 April. The Park Service says peak bloom is almost impossible to forecast more than ten days out. Parades run along Constitution Avenue on 10 April, ten blocks from 16th Street, and on July 4, 2027, a Sunday, from 7th to 17th Street. The NFL Draft fan festival takes the Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue from 29 April to 1 May, and the Waldorf Astoria and the JW Marriott both have Pennsylvania Avenue addresses. Lonely Planet ranks January to March cheapest and Momondo points to August. The TRB Annual Meeting (10 to 14 January, at the Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis) and the Auto Show (22 to 31 January) both fall inside Lonely Planet's window.
The District taxes a room 15.95% through 30 March 2027, the last date its notice covers. Six of the twelve hotels also show a nightly hotel fee on the booking screen: $30 at the Grand Hyatt and Metro Center, $35 at the Marquis and the JW Marriott, $37 at the Monaco, $40 at the Westin. At the four Marriott hotels the fee is already in the first price you see. The Monaco's comes after, with its own $5.90 of tax. Riggs charges a $40 daily fee, per the hotel's own site, but its booking screen could not be read, and neither could the Henley Park's or the Morrison-Clark's. Eleven hotels price overnight valet. The Henley Park and the Morrison-Clark ask $42 before tax. The Conrad, the Waldorf Astoria and the Westin ask $80.
Lonely Planet ranks January to March cheapest citywide, with February the best bet, and Momondo points to August. Neither is specific to Penn Quarter, and big events in this district fall inside those months: the TRB Annual Meeting (10 to 14 January 2027) at the Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis, the Auto Show (22 to 31 January), the Capitals' five-game homestand from 14 to 23 February, and Rock 'n' Roll DC (18 to 20 March) with the cherry blossom festival opening on 20 March. DC runs on weekday demand.
Six of the twelve showed one on the booking screen: the Grand Hyatt ($30 destination fee per night), Washington Marriott at Metro Center ($30), the Washington Marriott Marquis ($35), the JW Marriott ($35), the Kimpton Hotel Monaco ($37 Guest Amenities Fee, $42.90 with its tax) and The Westin ($40). Marriott lists its four inside the rate. Riggs says on its own site that it applies a $40 daily hotel fee, but its booking screen could not be read, and neither could the Henley Park's or the Morrison-Clark's. Conrad, the Waldorf Astoria and the Hampton Inn showed none on their screens.
Eleven of the twelve list an overnight rate, from $42 to $80. The Henley Park's is $42 plus tax (its amenities page also says $50) and the Morrison-Clark's $42 plus 18% tax. The Hampton Inn is $59, Riggs $64, the Monaco $65, the Marquis and Metro Center $75, the JW $76, and the Conrad, the Waldorf Astoria and the Westin $80. The Westin alone has a self-parking price we confirmed, $80 a day. The Grand Hyatt lists valet and self-parking but we could not confirm a rate.
15.95% of the room rate, per the District's Office of Tax and Revenue. Its notice sets that rate for April 1, 2023 through March 30, 2027 and gives none after, so treat a stay that runs into April 2027 as unconfirmed. A hotel fee can carry its own tax: the Monaco's screen adds $5.90 on its $37 fee. Marriott's fees sit inside the rate it lists.
2 minutes for the Kimpton Hotel Monaco, 5 for Riggs, 8 for the Hampton Inn, 9 for the Grand Hyatt and The Westin, and 11 for Conrad and Metro Center. The Waldorf Astoria, the Henley Park, the Marquis and the JW Marriott are 13, and the Morrison-Clark is 17. Walks are timed by the street route.
Yes. Metro Center station opens into the Grand Hyatt's lobby, and the Morrison-Clark says the Metro Center and Mount Vernon Square stations are four blocks away. Trains run 5 AM to midnight Monday to Thursday, 5 AM to 2 AM on Friday, 6 AM to 2 AM on Saturday and 6 AM to midnight on Sunday. A weekday daytime fare is $2.25 to $6.75, and $2.25 to $2.50 after 9:30 PM and on weekends.
