Plan around two commencements in mid-May; February weekends are the soft nights

Graduation is the stretch to avoid here. GWU's ceremony on the Mall is Sunday, May 16, 2027, and Georgetown's commencement runs May 19 to 23, with the university-wide ceremony at Nationals Park on the morning of Thursday, May 20. Both bring families looking for rooms in Foggy Bottom and Georgetown. Weekends are the softer nights in a city whose hotels lean on weekday business, and Lonely Planet picks February as the cheapest month. Conventions take some of those nights back: the Society for Neuroscience fills the Walter E. Washington Convention Center November 14 to 18, 2026, and in the new year the TRB meeting (January 10 to 14) and the Auto Show (January 22 to 31) take their turn.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs March 20 to April 11, 2027, its 100th anniversary, and peak bloom came on March 26 in 2026. The Park Service says a forecast more than 10 days out is almost impossible. The Rock 'n' Roll half marathon starts at 8 am on Constitution Avenue on Saturday, March 20, the festival's first day. The NFL Draft is April 29 to May 1, with a free fan festival on the Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue. July 4, 2027 is a Sunday, with the parade on Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets; its program is not posted yet.

The Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn and ARC showed no fee on the booking screen, and the Park Hyatt and Eurostars are unread. The other seven charge $25 to $37.28 a night, and four of them fold it into the rate Marriott or Hilton lists. The District's room tax is 15.95% through March 30, 2027, and the tax office names no rate after that date. Parking at eleven of the twelve runs $40 to $80 a night. Among the seven fee hotels, overnight parking starts at the Westin's $48 self-parking, against its $30 fee, and tops out at the Melrose's $80 valet, against a fee of $34.79 with its tax. Daytime weekday Metro fares run $2.25 to $6.75, and trains run until midnight Sunday to Thursday and 2 am on Friday and Saturday.

Foggy Bottom deal questions

When are Foggy Bottom hotels cheapest?

January through March, with February the best bet, by Lonely Planet's ranking. Convention weeks break that: the TRB meeting runs January 10 to 14 and the Auto Show January 22 to 31. Washington does most of its hotel business on weekdays, so weekend nights are the likelier bargains; we found no current occupancy split by day to prove it. Momondo points to August. We could not tie that to the congressional recess.

Which Foggy Bottom hotels charge a hotel fee?

Seven of the twelve, as their booking screens read on October 29, 2026: the Watergate ($37 Urban Resort Fee, with $5.90 of tax on top), the Melrose ($30 Historic Preservation Fee plus tax, $34.79), the Fairmont ($37.28 Urban Experience Fee, shown inside a total labelled taxes and fees included), the Westin Georgetown and the Washington Marriott Georgetown ($30 Destination Fee each, inside the rate Marriott lists), and the Embassy Suites and One Washington Circle ($25 mandatory charge each, inside Hilton's price, taxes excluded). The Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn and ARC showed none. The Park Hyatt and Eurostars St Gregory have not been read yet.

How much does parking cost at Foggy Bottom hotels?

$40 to $80 a night at the eleven hotels that list a price. Self-parking, where it is offered, runs $40 at the Ritz-Carlton, $48 at the Westin, $60 at the Washington Marriott Georgetown and the Residence Inn, and $70 at the Embassy Suites. Marriott's page for the Washington Marriott Georgetown also prints a $60 per hour figure, so confirm that one with the hotel. Valet runs $55 (ARC, off-site), $60 plus taxes (Eurostars), $65 (the Watergate and the Westin), $66 (One Washington Circle, which has no self-parking), $68 (Ritz-Carlton), $70 overnight (Fairmont) and $80 plus tax (Melrose). The Park Hyatt's price is unconfirmed.

What tax applies to a Foggy Bottom hotel room?

15.95% on the room rate through March 30, 2027, per the District's Office of Tax and Revenue, which names no rate after that date. The District sets no resort fee of its own; hotels set theirs. The Watergate's screen put $5.90 of tax on its $37 fee, and the Melrose's $34.79 is a $30 fee plus tax.

How far is each Foggy Bottom hotel from the Metro?

The Residence Inn is closest, at 3 minutes on foot to Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro. One Washington Circle and ARC are 4, the Melrose 5, the Ritz-Carlton and the Westin 7, the Fairmont and the Park Hyatt 8, the Watergate and the Washington Marriott Georgetown 9, and Eurostars and the Embassy Suites 10. Walks are timed along the street route.

Why do so many Foggy Bottom hotels have Georgetown in their names?

Six of the twelve do: the Fairmont, the Melrose, the Westin, the Washington Marriott Georgetown, Eurostars St Gregory and the Embassy Suites. We time each of them to Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro, 5 to 10 minutes on foot. Georgetown itself has no Metro station, so Foggy Bottom-GWU, Dupont Circle and Rosslyn are the closest.
