Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Three minutes on foot from Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro, the Residence Inn at 801 New Hampshire Ave NW has the shortest walk of the twelve, and the rooms come with kitchens. No hotel fee appeared on Marriott's screen, which returned no rate for November 17, so the night we read was November 18. Self-parking runs $60 a day on Marriott's page, and 15.95% tax goes on the room. The hotel was fully renovated around January 2023, and guests find the neighborhood quiet at night, with a grocery store nearby. Check-in is 4 PM and check-out 11 AM, and guests report trouble at both ends, including rooms not ready when promised. Two pets can stay, each up to 100 lbs, for $150 non-refundable. Connected rooms can be arranged. There is no pool, and breakfast is free but basic, served in a small area near the front door. Housekeeping lapses are reported, including a dirty kitchen floor.
