Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The Watergate Hotel charges a $37 Urban Resort Fee, and the November 17 booking screen taxed the fee $5.90, bringing it to $42.90 a night before the room. It covers the heated indoor salt pool, sauna and steam room at the Argentta Spa. Skip the spa and the $42.90 is paying for the 24-hour fitness center and business center, Wi-Fi, in-room bottled water, domestic calls, package handling and the hotel's bikes when one is free. Valet at 2650 Virginia Ave NW is $65 a night ($75 oversized, $150 for vans), so a car and the fee add $107.90 a night to the room rate, before the room's 15.95% tax. No tax on parking is stated. The Park & Stay offer includes the overnight valet, with blackout dates. The building is older. Sound carries between rooms and the rooms feel small for the price. The front desk can be slow to answer. Pets up to 50 lbs are $100 a stay for up to two. Check-in age is 21, and the walk to Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro is 9 minutes.
