Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Hilton's screen had no rooms at the Hampton Inn for Tuesday, 17 November, when we searched on 29 October for one night and two adults. Wednesday the 18th had rooms, and no mandatory-charge line sat beside them. A last-minute search here should take in the night either side. From 901 6th St NW it is 576 meters, 8 minutes, to Capital One Arena by the street route; only the Monaco and Riggs, both on F Street, are closer. Rooms are ready at 3 PM, the same as at the Monaco and the Morrison-Clark and an hour before the Conrad, the Waldorf Astoria, Riggs and the four Marriott hotels. Checkout is at noon. Pets are allowed for a $75 non-refundable fee, $25 less than Riggs asks for a dog. Six other chain hotels here ask $75 to $80 to park a car. The Hampton has no self-parking, and Hilton's hotel-info page puts its valet at $59 a night.
