Four hotels in Penn Quarter are about a 4-minute walk from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, where the TRB Annual Meeting runs Sunday 10 to Thursday 14 January 2027. More than 10,500 people came in 2026.

TRB's 2027 page names the Washington Marriott Marquis as a second venue and doesn't say which sessions are in which building. Each walk here runs to the nearer side of the convention center, Allen Y. Lew Place NW on the south or 9th Street NW on the west, routed on foot on a normal day. None ends at a particular hall or door.

Fees come off each hotel's own booking screen, read for one night in November or December. Parking comes from the hotels' own pages. Our 29 October reads for TRB week showed only whether rooms sold, not what they cost.

4 to 6 minutes on foot

The Marquis is the shortest walk, 274 meters to the 9th Street side, and Marriott's events page says an underground concourse connects it to the convention center. Its $35 destination fee is already in the rate Marriott lists. Valet is $75 a day with in-and-out privileges, and it takes nothing taller than 6 feet 5 inches.

Self-parking at The Westin Washington, DC Downtown is $11 an hour or $80 a day, and valet is $80 a day, so a full day costs the same whoever parks the car. It's 310 meters from the Allen Y. Lew Place side. The $40 destination fee is already in the rate Marriott lists.

Hilton's booking screen showed no fee at the Hampton Inn Washington-Downtown-Convention Center. Its only parking is valet, $59 a night, and it's 328 meters from the same side. The Henley Park Hotel, 335 meters from the 9th Street side, is valet only as well. We haven't read its fee on a booking screen.

The Conrad Washington DC is a 6-minute walk, 415 meters. Hilton's screen showed no fee there either, and covered valet is $80 a night with in-and-out.

TRB's block is $203 a night, and we couldn't read which hotels are in it

TRB's housing bureau takes reservations through 21 December 2026 or until its room block sells out, whichever comes first. TRB prices the block at the federal per diem, $203 a night.

The housing page links a hotel comparison PDF we couldn't extract text from. Read it before you choose. We didn't find out whether a destination fee comes on top of the $203, so ask the bureau. The page puts taxi fares between the center and TRB hotels at about $5 to $15.

Sunday 10 January sold at fewer hotels than Tuesday

On 29 October 2026 we read the booking screens of eight hotels for Sunday 10 January and Tuesday 12 January, each night on its own, for two adults. They were the Marquis, the Westin, the Hampton Inn, the Conrad, the Kimpton, the Marriott at Metro Center, the Hamilton and Le Méridien. Tuesday sold at all eight. Sunday sold at six. Availability will have moved since we looked.

Hilton's screen had no rooms at the Hampton Inn for Sunday alone, but Sunday 10 to Thursday 14 January sold as one stay. We tried only those two lengths. If Sunday won't sell alone, search Sunday to Thursday as one stay.

That didn't work at the Conrad. It sold Tuesday, but not Sunday, alone or inside the Sunday to Thursday stay.

The other six sold both nights.

9 to 14 minutes out

The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC is 9 minutes and 704 meters away. A $37 Guest Amenities Fee comes to $42.90 a night with its tax, and valet is the only parking, $65 a night plus tax.

Metro Center station opens into the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Washington, also a 9-minute walk, 659 meters. It wasn't one of the eight we read for TRB week. Hyatt's screen shows a $30 destination fee a night, tax not stated, and Hyatt gives no parking rate.

Valet is $75 a day at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, 10 minutes and 780 meters out, and its $30 destination fee is already in the rate Marriott lists.

The Hamilton Hotel and Le Méridien Washington, D.C., The Madison are in Downtown and the White House. The Hamilton charges a $25 Facility Fee plus a 1% Community Impact Fee, both taxed. That came to $34.08 a night on the screen for 17 November, and the 1% part moves with the room rate. The Facility Fee is waived on the government and military rate. Valet is $69 a night, and the walk is 12 minutes.

Le Méridien takes 14 minutes on foot, 1,045 meters. The $36 destination fee is already in the rate Marriott lists, and valet is $71 a day.

16 to 19 minutes out

We didn't read TRB nights for any hotel past 14 minutes. The nearest of them is the Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square, 16 minutes and 1,182 meters out. Accor's price includes its $40 Urban Experience Fee, and valet is $70 overnight with in-and-out.

Of the 13 hotels at 16 to 19 minutes whose booking screens we've read, nine add a nightly fee and four showed none. The Jefferson, Washington DC is 17 minutes away and publishes no price for valet, its main parking. Valet is the only parking at the Hilton Washington DC Capitol Hill, $70 a night, 18 minutes out.

The Waldorf Astoria Washington DC and the Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol are both 19 minutes away. Valet at the Waldorf is $80 a night, and parking at the Hyatt Place isn't confirmed.

Metro stations at the convention center

The convention center is built over Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center station, on the Green and Yellow lines, and Events DC puts the Red Line's Gallery Place-Chinatown a 5-minute walk away. WMATA's fares page lists $2.25 to $6.75 on weekdays from 5 am to 9:30 pm, and $2.25 to $2.50 after 9:30 pm or on weekends. Trains run 5 am to midnight Monday to Thursday and 6 am to midnight on Sundays. WMATA hasn't announced fares or hours for January 2027, so both are its 2026 figures.

Capitals home games on Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 January

Per the NHL schedule, the Capitals host Vegas on Tuesday and Carolina on Thursday at Capital One Arena, both at 7 pm. The other three nights have no home game. We didn't check the arena's concerts that week, or the Wizards' January home dates.

On foot, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is 2 minutes from the arena. The Hampton Inn is 8 and the Westin 9.
