The Jefferson is the only one of the nine downtown hotels whose booking screen we read that showed no hotel fee. The itemized rate for November 17, 2026 carried the District's 15.95% room tax and nothing else, so the listed rate plus 15.95% is the whole bill for the room. It is a small independent hotel in a building that started as a luxury apartment block in 1923 and reopened in 2009. Staff are the standout, attentive and personal, and they remember returning guests. Some rooms run small for the price and breakfast is expensive. The feel is quiet, and the rooms are well kept. Dogs up to 50 pounds are welcome for $50 a stay. The room key opens an on-site fitness center, and the hotel FAQ points to a larger gym and pool at the nearby University Club. The hotel calls valet the primary parking option and publishes no rate. We found no shuttle; the hotel's FAQ says private car service can be arranged in advance through the hotel.
