Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Accounts of the Capital Hilton split hard. Some describe friendly, professional staff, others rude staff and unclean rooms, and room size splits the same way, small in one telling and spacious in the next. Room service gets knocked, and so does the heating in a few rooms. Pets are allowed for a non-refundable $125. Lafayette Square is a 5-minute walk, and the White House is close by. Parking draws complaints of its own. Self-parking isn't sold, and Hilton's hotel page lists valet at $75 without saying whether that is per night or whether tax goes on it, so ask before you drive in. Hilton's November 17, 2026 screen read "Price includes $30.00 USD mandatory charge per night, but excludes taxes and government charges", so the $30 is in the price and the District's 15.95% is not. If the $75 is nightly, the charge and parking come to $105 a night, $315 over three nights.

Capital Hilton FAQ

Does the Capital Hilton charge a resort or destination fee?

Yes, a $30 mandatory charge per night. Hilton's booking screen for November 17, 2026 read "Price includes $30.00 USD mandatory charge per night, but excludes taxes and government charges," so the fee is in the price and the District's 15.95% room tax is not.

How much is parking at the Capital Hilton?

Valet is $75, per the hotel's Hilton page, and self-parking is not available. The page doesn't say whether that is per night or whether tax applies. Hilton's price already includes the $30 charge, so the valet is what a car adds.

Does the Capital Hilton allow pets?

Yes, with a non-refundable fee of $125.

What are check-in and check-out times at the Capital Hilton?

4 PM and 11 AM.

How far is the Capital Hilton from Lafayette Square?

5 minutes on foot, by the street route.
