Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Tuesday, November 17 came back Not Available at the Hyatt Place, and Hyatt's screen would only sell us a room for the 18th, so a midweek night in mid-November can close out here. That November 18 screen had no fee line at all, which makes this the Hyatt here without a destination fee; the Hyatt Regency charges $35 a night and does not say whether that is taxed. Both rooms carry the 15.95% DC tax. If you're driving, phone first, because Hyatt's parking page would not load when we researched, and its check-in and pet pages failed the same way. Rooms came up clean and roomy, against a limited breakfast with little variety, and one stay had a broken air conditioner. Union Station is an 18-minute walk from 33 New York Ave NE, 10 minutes more than from the Hyatt Regency and 14 more than from Phoenix Park or the Kimpton George, and an older review found the hotel farther from the Capitol than expected.
