Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Until 2022 this was the Trump International Hotel. It became the Waldorf Astoria that year, at the same address, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave NW, 13 minutes on foot from Capital One Arena, 982 meters by the street route. Inside the old Post Office building the rooms have chandeliers and oversized bathtubs. Guests describe the lobby as crowded from early morning until late evening. The room is yours from 4 PM until noon. There is no self-parking. Covered valet with in-and-out privileges costs $80 a night, twice the biggest hotel fee read on any booking screen in this area. The Waldorf's own screen showed none. Hilton's page adds tax to the $50 day rate and the $100 oversized rate but says nothing about tax on the $80. The pet fee is $250, non-refundable, the highest any of the twelve lists, so a dog and a car for one night come to $330 in those two charges alone.
