Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Hyatt's booking screen for the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill says, 'This property charges a $35.00 nightly destination fee per room.' Over three nights it comes to $105, and the screen does not say whether the fee is taxed, though the District's 15.95% lands on the room regardless. The $35 sits between Phoenix Park's $32 and the Kimpton George's $37, which is $42.90 with its tax, and runs $5 above the $30 the Morrow and the Capitol Hill Hotel fold into the rates they list. The walk to Union Station from 400 New Jersey Ave NW takes 8 minutes and covers about 590 meters. The Hyatt Place, from the same company, showed no fee on its screen, but its walk to the station is 18 minutes, more than twice this one. We have no parking rate to add for a car: Hyatt's parking page did not load when we researched, and neither did the check-in or pet pages, so ask the hotel before you drive in.
