Santa Monica Travel & Tourism publishes its numbers by the year and the odd month, with no weekday-against-weekend split, so price a Tuesday against a Saturday yourself. Of the 3.9 million people who came in 2025, 87.7% went home the same day. Hotel guests were 10.9%, about 423,000 people, and they stayed 3.58 nights on average, up from 2.9 the year before. Half of all visitors came from abroad, most of them from Europe. This winter's big dates across town fall on Sundays. The Grammys are at Crypto.com Arena on February 7, 2027 and Super Bowl LXI is at SoFi Stadium the Sunday after, with the Oscars on March 14 at the Dolby Theatre. We found no figure for how much of that crowd spills over to the beach.
Without monthly rates we can't put a number on a cheap month. The one dated figure is April 2025, when Santa Monica hotels averaged $363.36 a night. Hotels in the City of Los Angeles tourism district have averaged $220.04 so far in 2026. Demand has been soft. Hotel guests fell 20.9% in 2025, and the room tax visitors paid dropped 13.2% to $54.4 million, by the tourism office's estimate. Marina del Rey's Holiday Boat Parade is Saturday, December 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. The LA Marathon used to end here; on March 7, 2027 it finishes in Century City. Check your dates against the Convention Center downtown, where Star Wars Celebration runs April 1 to 4 and Anime Expo July 2 to 5.
Santa Monica's room tax is 15%. Venice is inside the City of Los Angeles, where it's 14%, and Marina del Rey is unincorporated county at 12%. California's total-price law says a mandatory nightly fee belongs inside the first price you're shown, and only government taxes and fees can sit outside it. The city's parking tax went to 18% in January 2025, though the Fairmont Miramar's policy page still says 10%, and most hotels quote valet plus tax or don't say. At the Regent the resort fee and valet come to more than $200 a night with tax, before you've paid for the room. If you're staying on Ocean Avenue you can leave the car at home. The E Line runs from 7th St/Metro Center downtown to 4th and Colorado in about 46 minutes, and the pier is a 10-minute walk from the station.
15% of what you pay for the room, a rate in force since March 1, 2023 and a point above the City of Los Angeles. Venice is part of the City of Los Angeles at 14%, and Marina del Rey is unincorporated LA County at 12%. Santa Monica also levies a flat tourism assessment per room night, set by the hotel's average daily rate: $2.30 at hotels averaging $100 to $199.99 in 2026, up to $7.25 at hotels averaging over $300. The Regent adds a 0.195% California Tourism Assessment to its resort fee line as well.
$60 to $93.22 a night for valet at the hotels that publish a rate, and none of them lists a self-park price. Hotel Erwin in Venice is $60 and the Viceroy $62 plus tax (its overview page says $60). The Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey is $65. The Fairmont Miramar charges $70 plus tax and the Georgian $72 plus tax, both with in-and-out, and the Sandbourne $76 plus tax. Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar are $90, Santa Monica Proper $90.27 with tax included and in-and-out, and the Regent $93.22 plus tax, which it puts at about $110 all in. Oceana publishes no nightly rate. The city's parking tax has been 18% since January 1, 2025, though the Fairmont's policy page still quotes 10%.
Seven of the ones we researched charge one, and six publish the amount. The Sandbourne calls its $30 plus tax a destination fee, and the Viceroy's guest amenities fee is $43 plus tax, $49.54 with it. Santa Monica Proper's destination amenity fee is $55 plus tax. Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar charge a $60 resort fee plus 15% tax, about $69, and the Regent $90 plus 15% occupancy tax and the 0.195% California Tourism Assessment, about $104. The Georgian charges a daily amenity fee but doesn't publish the amount. The Fairmont Miramar, Hotel Erwin, Oceana and the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey show no fee on the pages we read. California's SB 478 requires a mandatory fee to be inside the price you're first shown, so if the total jumps by the fee at checkout, the first price was wrong.
Yes, at the hotels on Ocean Avenue and near the pier. The Metro E Line runs from 7th St/Metro Center in downtown LA to Downtown Santa Monica Station at 4th and Colorado in about 46 minutes, and the pier is a 10-minute walk from there. Big Blue Bus Route 8 and Metro's 534 both stop at Ocean and Colorado, and Big Blue Bus now takes credit and debit cards. In 2025, 82% of visitors walked to get around the city. Hotel Erwin in Venice and the two Marina del Rey hotels are a drive from the pier, and that survey doesn't count them separately.
Five have Ocean Avenue addresses: Oceana at 849, the Georgian at 1415, the Regent at 1700, the Sandbourne at 1740 and the Viceroy at 1819. The Fairmont Miramar is at 101 Wilshire Boulevard. Shutters on the Beach at 1 Pico Boulevard and Hotel Casa del Mar at 1910 Ocean Way are close too, and Shutters calls the pier walking distance without giving a figure. Hotel Erwin, at 1697 Pacific Avenue in Venice, and the Ritz-Carlton and the Marriott on Admiralty Way in Marina del Rey are a drive away.
Not anymore. The 2027 race is Sunday, March 7, starting at Dodger Stadium and finishing at Santa Monica Boulevard and Avenue of the Stars in Century City. The old Stadium to the Sea course ended in Santa Monica. The finish moved to Century City in 2020, after Santa Monica quoted much higher costs to keep hosting it.
