Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Regent Santa Monica Beach charges a $90 resort fee every night and hands a big share of it back as a $50 credit at the Guerlain spa, also every night. If you'd book a treatment anyway, the fee works out to about $40 before tax. If you won't, you're paying $90 for electric bikes, a Beach Butler for two, group fitness classes and a welcome refreshment. So the math favors a couple staying three nights with a spa appointment each day. A one-night stop is the worst version of this hotel. Check-in at 4 and check-out at noon leave little room to fit in a treatment. Dogs do well here. The pet fee is waived under the Tides & Tails program and a bed and treats are waiting in the room, but the hotel publishes no size or number limit, so call before you bring a large one. The pool is open all year to hotel guests and heated in season, with some adult-only hours parents should check first. With a car, the extras pass $200 a night before the room. The FAQ adds 15% occupancy tax and a 0.195% California Tourism Assessment to the fee, which makes it about $104. Valet is the only parking it lists, at $93.22 plus tax, which the hotel puts at about $110. That's about $214 a night, or $640 for three. The FAQ doesn't say whether the first price you see already includes the fee, so read the total on the booking screen.

Regent Santa Monica Beach FAQ

Does Regent Santa Monica Beach charge a resort fee?

Yes, $90 a night plus 15% occupancy tax and a 0.195% California Tourism Assessment, which comes to about $104. It covers a $50 daily Guerlain spa credit, electric bikes, a Beach Butler for two, a welcome refreshment, resort programming and the pet fee. The FAQ doesn't say whether the first price you see includes it, so check the total on the booking screen.

How much is parking at Regent Santa Monica Beach?

$93.22 plus tax a night for overnight valet, which the hotel puts at about $110 total. Valet is the only option its FAQ lists, and it says nothing about in-and-out privileges or oversized vehicles. Visitors without validation pay $25 for the first hour and $12 an hour after that, up to $110 a day.

Is Regent Santa Monica Beach pet friendly?

Yes. Pets stay under the Tides & Tails program, which leaves a plush bed and treats in the room, and the pet fee is folded into the $90 resort fee. The hotel doesn't publish size or number limits, so call before bringing a large dog or more than one.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4 pm and check-out is noon. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested but aren't guaranteed.

Can kids use the pool at Regent Santa Monica Beach?

Yes, with an adult if they're under 14. The pool is for hotel guests only and stays open all year, heated in season. Some hours may be adult-only swim, so call the hotel to confirm times.

Is Regent Santa Monica Beach worth it for a last-minute stay?

For two or three nights with a spa treatment each day, the $50 daily credit gives back more than half the fee. For one night with a car, budget about $214 on top of the room for the taxed fee and valet, and expect to use little of what the fee pays for.
