Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Fairmont Miramar is set up so you can park the car once and stop thinking about it. Five places to eat and drink are on the property: FIG for coastal cooking, Soko for sushi, Dogtown Coffee, The Bungalow for cocktails late, and the Lobby Lounge. You'll want them, because the car is the expensive part. Valet is the only parking, $70 a night plus tax, and Santa Monica's 10% city parking tax alone brings that to $77. A week with a car is $539 before the room. In-and-out is included and EV charging is free, which helps if you're doing day trips, but the nightly figure doesn't change whether the car moves or not. The hotel's info and policy pages list charges for parking and pets, and no resort fee, but fairmont.com's room screen adds a Resort Experience Fee of $57.80 a night with taxes on top. With the valet, a night with the car runs $134.80 over the room rate before the fee's tax. Dogs are welcome for $125 per pet per stay, leashed, and they can't be left alone in the room, so plan dinners around that. Check-in isn't until 4 pm, which is a long morning if you drove in early. Check-out is noon. If you're flying in and planning to stay close to the hotel, the parking bill never appears and the restaurants cover the evenings. If the car comes out every day, budget $77 a night for it on top of the fee.
