Casa del Mar started out in 1926 as Club Casa del Mar, a private beach club, and the building still sits on the sand at Santa Monica Beach. It became a hotel in November 1999 after a $50 million restoration. The hotel's pages name no renovation since. You book it to walk out of the lobby and onto the beach. Shutters on the Beach, run by the same company, is next door, and the pier is a short walk down the beach strand, though the hotel never gives a distance. The heated pool keeps its seating for registered guests. Valet is the only parking the hotel lists. It's $90 overnight, and nothing on its pages covers self-parking or in-and-out. Put the $60 resort fee and its 15% tax on top and a driver is paying about $159 a night before the room, or $318 for a Friday and Saturday. Without the car it's $69. The fee does buy something: a two-hour bike rental every day, an afternoon house car for anything within three miles, EV charging, weekend beach yoga and a welcome drink. A one-night guest who gets the room at 4 pm and hands it back at noon will use almost none of it. Spend three nights riding the bikes and letting the house car take you to dinner, and the money starts to come back. Dogs can come if they weigh 25 pounds or less, for $125 a stay. They can't go in the pool area.
