If you want to walk back to your room after the Parade of Pirates on Saturday 30 January, the hotels nearest the end of the route will mostly make you buy Friday night as well. On 20 October we put a one-night stay for the 30th into the booking screens of ten hotels we cover in downtown Tampa. Four refused it. Six sold the Saturday on its own. Five of those are by the Convention Center, at the south end of downtown or across the bridge on Harbour Island, and all five are 18 minutes or more on foot from where the parade finishes.
The parade's 4.5-mile route starts at Bay to Bay Boulevard, follows Bayshore Boulevard north, turns east on Brorein Street and north on Ashley Drive, and ends at Cass Street. It's scheduled for 2pm to 6pm. The pirate ship comes in first, between 11:30am and 1pm by the organizer's schedule, which says times can change. Last year it was due to land at the Tampa Convention Center. The organizer's pages didn't say where it lands in 2027 when we checked.
Every walk time here is a street route from OpenStreetMap's foot routing, run on 20 October: to the nearest point of the route on Brorein Street or Ashley Drive, to Ashley Drive at Cass Street where the parade ends, or to the Convention Center at 333 South Franklin Street. Those routes don't know about barricades, and on parade day they can take longer.
The four that wanted Friday too
Hotel Tampa Riverwalk at 200 North Ashley Drive is on the route itself, about 8 minutes south of where it ends. Hilton's screen turned down a one-night Saturday with "Sorry, we don't have any rooms available for those dates," and a Saturday-to-Monday stay the same way. Only Friday to Sunday went through, with 3 rooms. There's no resort fee, and parking is valet only at $44 plus tax a night. The hotel's own website now redirects to Hotel Cala, which it says is "Premiering January 2027" at the same address, the month of the parade.
The shortest walk to the end of the parade on this page is from Hotel Flor on North Florida Avenue, about 4 minutes to Cass Street. A Saturday alone got the same "no rooms" message. Friday and Saturday together found 7. Hilton adds a $30 nightly destination charge plus tax, and valet is the only parking at $52 a night, so a driver pays $82 a night plus tax on top of the room.
The Barrymore at 111 West Fortune Street, across from the Straz Center, is about 6 minutes from the end. Its screen said it outright: "The selected dates requires a minimum of 2 nights stay." Friday and Saturday went through. It's the only one of the ten that publishes a self-parking rate, $20 a night per vehicle in a gated lot, and it publishes no resort fee. The building was a Howard Johnson until 2014, and recent guests still describe peeling paint and a musty smell in some rooms.
Two weeks earlier, Saturday 16 January sold as a single night at Flor, the Barrymore and Hotel Tampa Riverwalk. It isn't every weekend.
Hotel Haya in Ybor City wanted two nights too. Its calendar marked 30 January "2-night min stay" and showed no priced rooms for the Saturday alone. At about 31 minutes on foot from the route, it's a streetcar hotel for the day. Last year the TECO streetcar was free from 8:30am to 2am. Before 3pm it ran from Ybor's station 2 into downtown while stations 3 to 9 stayed closed, and after 3pm it ran from downtown back out until 2am. The city also told people to park in Ybor and ride in.
Haya adds a $25 nightly destination fee plus tax, and parking is valet, $39 a night, with nothing else listed. It sits on Ybor's bar strip, and guests report music and crowd noise from the street reaching some rooms late on weekends.
One night at Le Méridien and by the Convention Center
Le Méridien is also on North Florida Avenue, about 6 minutes from the route and 8 from Cass Street, and Marriott sold it for the Saturday alone. Of the six that did, it's the closest to the end of the parade by about 10 minutes. The old courthouse has no lot of its own. Valet is $52 overnight, and it's where this hotel's complaints collect, mostly long waits to get a car back. Marriott's screen showed a $30 destination fee in each night's rate.
The other five sit around the Convention Center at the south end of downtown, with the Westin across the bridge on Harbour Island. The Invasion Brunch is inside the Convention Center from 10am to 1:30pm, and tickets start at $175. Last year the main land viewing area for the invasion was along Ashley Drive and Whiting Street. Reserved bleacher seats on the parade route start at $50, and both prices are early-bird rates that end on 31 December.
Hilton found 10 rooms for the Saturday on its own at Embassy Suites on South Florida Avenue, 3 minutes from the Convention Center and about 6 from the route. A $35 nightly mandatory charge plus tax appears once you're booking. There's no self-parking, and the valet is listed at $55 without saying whether that's nightly or before tax. Guests report waiting 40 minutes to an hour for the car at checkout. Ask for yours early on Sunday.
The JW Marriott at 510 Water Street and the Tampa Marriott Water Street at 505 are joined by a skybridge. They're 5 and 7 minutes from the Convention Center and 8 and 10 from the route, and both sold one night. Each adds a $35 destination fee and charges $55 a day for valet, which comes to $90 a night before tax. Neither publishes a self-parking rate. The Tampa Marriott's site points drivers to the public Pam Iorio garage about 0.2 miles away, and last year that garage was on the city's parade-day event parking list.
Out at 500 Channelside Drive, The Tampa EDITION sold the Saturday with a $40 destination fee in the nightly rate. It's 8 minutes from the Convention Center and 11 from the route. Valet is $58 plus tax a night and no self-park is listed. Its lobby bar and rooftop pool bar fill with a local crowd on weekends, and guests mention the loud music.
The Westin on Harbour Island is the farthest of the six, about 12 minutes from the route and 9 from the Convention Center. It sold a Saturday-only Flexible Rate. The $30 destination fee has tax on top. Valet is $50 a day and it lists no other parking. Last year the city closed Harbour Island Boulevard over the bridge to traffic from 7am to midnight on parade day. If you're driving, ask the Westin when you book how you get the car on and off the island that day.
Getting a car downtown on the 30th
The city's 2027 closures and parking hadn't been posted when we looked on 20 October, and neither had a streetcar plan. The city's page says to "check back as event dates get closer," so everything in this section is last year's.
Last year Ashley Drive between Tyler and Brorein Streets was closed from 9am to 9pm on parade day, and so were the cross streets running east off it, from Whiting up to Polk. Check-in is 4pm at most of these hotels, which lands in the middle of the parade. On a one-night stay, ask the hotel how early it will take the car and the bags, and get there before the streets close.
Several of the city's event garages charged $30 last year and ran 6am to 10pm. Pam Iorio was one, along with the Tampa Convention Center Garage at Tampa and Brorein Streets and the Fort Brooke Garage on Whiting. The Poe Garage at Ashley and Cass sits on the route. Its hours were 6am to 6pm, and it was sealed from 3pm to 7pm with no entry or exit.
Children's Gasparilla, Saturday 23 January
The Children's parade is a week earlier, on Bayshore Boulevard from Bay to Bay north to Edison Avenue. It stays on Bayshore and stops short of downtown, so the walk times above don't apply to it. That Saturday the Embassy Suites, the Barrymore, Hotel Tampa Riverwalk and Haya each sold one night. Hotel Flor turned down the Saturday alone again and found 11 rooms for Friday and Saturday.
