Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Tampa Marriott Water Street shares a skybridge with the JW Marriott and sits right beside the Tampa Convention Center on the Riverwalk. Past guests walk to the arena and the Riverwalk, and the free downtown trolley stops across the street. Rooms come across as roomy and clean. The water-view rooms with balconies are the ones guests tell friends to request, and couples pay extra for them. Being this close to the convention center and the arena fills the building with conference groups and event-night crowds, and the room doors don't keep much corridor sound out. Late arrivals and hallway traffic keep some guests awake even when the walls between rooms feel solid, so a quiet night depends on who is staying on your floor. For a light sleeper, that matters more than the view. Driving here costs real money. Valet is the only parking the hotel prices: $55 a day, or $35 for a daytime-only short-term valet. It publishes no self-parking rate and asks you to call, and some guests leave the car in a cheaper public garage nearby instead. A $35 daily destination fee sits on top, shown on Marriott's booking screen, so a driver is $90 a night deeper before the room. Someone flying in for a conference and walking everywhere avoids both problems. A light sleeper arriving by car on a big event weekend gets both of them at once.
