Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Le Méridien Tampa is a converted courthouse, and guests bring up the building before anything else: the high ceilings, and the judge's bench kept in the lobby. Several say it doesn't feel like a chain. Rooms come across as updated inside the old shell with comfortable beds, and some guests found the front desk had learned their names during the stay. The building has no parking lot, so a car means valet, at $52 overnight, and valet is where the bad reviews collect. Guests describe long waits to get a car back (one waited nearly two hours because the attendant had gone home with the keys) and cars revved hard on the way round to the door. Someone arriving by rideshare, for a work trip or a weekend away as a couple, skips nearly all of that and gets a downtown room with real character. Marriott's booking screen shows a $30 destination fee inside each night's rate, though the hotel's own site doesn't list one. Small comforts can feel thin for the money: breakfast isn't always part of the rate, and there's no coffee maker in the room unless you ask for one. Downtown is easy to walk from the door, though the Riverwalk is 10 to 15 minutes away on foot, and one guest found that too far.

Does Le Méridien Tampa charge a resort fee?
Yes, $30 a night, which Marriott calls a destination fee. The hotel's own site doesn't list it; you see it once the booking screen prices a room.
Is there self-parking at Le Méridien Tampa?
No, parking is valet. Overnight valet is $52. The hotel also lists a $20 daytime-only rate and $5 for guests who only come for dinner.
What time is check-in?
4:00 pm. Check-out is 11:00 am.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, up to 40 lbs, for $50 a night. The hotel's own page contradicts itself on whether only dogs are accepted and whether two pets per room are allowed, so call ahead if you're bringing a cat or a second pet.
Can I walk to the Riverwalk from the hotel?
Yes, but plan on 10 to 15 minutes on foot. It isn't next door, and one guest found the walk too long.
Is it worth booking if I'm driving?
Only if the building is the point for you. Every car goes to valet at $52 a night, and slow valet returns are the most common complaint guests raise.
