Discover LA puts hotels in the city's Tourism Marketing District at 73.1% full in the first half of 2026, up from 71.8% a year earlier, but doesn't split that by neighborhood or day of the week, so the event calendars are your best guide. The Convention Center's trade and medical meetings sit on weekdays: OFC runs Tuesday to Thursday, March 9 to 11, 2027, and NAFSA Tuesday to Friday, June 1 to 4, with APIC behind it from Monday the 14th. Fan shows take the weekend. L.A. Comic Con is Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1, and Fit Expo and HorrorCon are both Saturday-and-Sunday events. Crypto.com Arena runs to its own schedule. This October it has the Lakers on Wednesday the 21st, Clippers against Lakers on Friday the 23rd, Weezer on Saturday the 24th and the Kings on Thursday the 29th.

Star Wars Celebration has the Convention Center April 1 to 4, 2027, and its hotel page already says most rooms were booked during an early-access window for ticket buyers. Anime Expo follows July 2 to 5 and claims over 100,000 fans. January opens with the LA Art Show, January 6 to 10, with the MLA Convention on top of it from the 7th, and the Grammys are at the arena on Sunday, February 7. After Build Expo on November 4 and 5, the Convention Center's December list is lighter, mostly weekend sports events and Collect-A-Con on the 19th and 20th.

Voters turned down Measure TT's raise to 16% on June 2, 2026, so the city's hotel tax stays at 14%. Hotels with 50 or more rooms also owe a 2% Tourism Marketing District assessment and are allowed to pass it to you on the bill, which would put tax and assessment at about 16% of the room before any hotel fee. Hotel Figueroa's $35 amenity fee and $62 valet come to $97 plus tax a night for a driver, before the room itself. Self-parking costs less: the L.A. Live garages charge a flat $15 plus parking tax if you come in after 9 PM and leave before 4:30 AM, and The Hoxton sends drivers to a lot at 959 S. Main St. that charges $17 for 12 hours with no in-and-out. Pico Boulevard is shut between Figueroa and LA Live Way until March 31, 2028 for the Convention Center expansion.

Downtown Los Angeles deal questions

What is the hotel tax in downtown Los Angeles?

14% of the room rate. Measure TT would have raised the city's hotel tax to 16% through 2028, and voters rejected it on June 2, 2026. Hotels with 50 rooms or more in the city also pay a 2% Tourism Marketing District assessment on room revenue. Discover LA says they're allowed to pass it on to guests, and it shows up on the room folio. We haven't checked which downtown hotels pass it on. Booking through a travel site doesn't get you out of the tax: Measure TC, which voters passed the same day, makes online travel companies collect it and pay it to the city. We couldn't find the date it takes effect.

How much is hotel parking in downtown LA?

$57 to $71.50 a night for valet at the hotels that publish a rate. Hotel Indigo is $57 plus tax with in-and-out, Hotel Figueroa $62 plus tax, The Hoxton $66 with in-and-out and the Ritz-Carlton $71.50 a day at most. We couldn't find a published rate for JW Marriott L.A. Live (call 213-765-8600) or the Biltmore (213-624-1011). Self-parking is cheaper. The L.A. Live garages charge $10 for the first two hours and $40 at most, plus city parking tax, or a flat $15 if you come in after 9 PM and leave before 4:30 AM. The Hoxton also points you to a lot at 959 S. Main St. that charges $17 for up to 12 hours, with no in-and-out.

Do downtown LA hotels charge a resort or amenity fee?

Hotel Figueroa does, at $35 plus tax a night. Hotel Indigo, The Hoxton, the Ritz-Carlton and the Biltmore show no fee on the pages we read, which isn't the same as charging none, so read the tax-and-fee line before you pay. We couldn't read the fee pages for JW Marriott L.A. Live, the Westin Bonaventure, the Omni, the Sheraton Grand, the Conrad, the Moxy or the InterContinental.

Which weeks are hardest to book downtown at the last minute?

Star Wars Celebration, April 1 to 4, 2027, and Anime Expo, July 2 to 5. Both are at the Convention Center. Star Wars Celebration's own hotel page says availability is already limited because most rooms were booked during an early-access window for ticket buyers, and Anime Expo claims more than 100,000 fans. In January the LA Art Show (January 6 to 10) and the MLA Convention (January 7 to 10) overlap, and the Grammys are at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, February 7.

What's the cheapest way from LAX to downtown?

Metro, at $1.75 with free transfers for two hours. The Metro Connector shuttle runs between the terminals and LAX/Metro Transit Center and is free with valid proof of transit, but we couldn't confirm the train routing from there to downtown from Metro itself, so check its trip planner. The FlyAway bus is simpler at $12.75 one way between LAX and Union Station, with the first bus leaving Union Station at 5:00 AM. LAWA's own page disagrees with itself on how often FlyAway runs and when the last bus leaves LAX, so check it against your flight if you land late.

Does the Convention Center construction affect getting to my hotel?

If you drive near L.A. Live, yes. Pico Boulevard between Figueroa Street and LA Live Way is closed around the clock from December 4, 2025 through March 31, 2028 for the Convention Center expansion, and lane closures at Figueroa and Washington Boulevard run through January 4, 2027. By Metro, Pico station on the A and E Lines is about 8 minutes on foot from the Convention Center, and 7th St/Metro Center is 10 to 15. DASH Route F stops on Figueroa next to the Convention Center and L.A. Live.
