Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Walt Disney Concert Hall is across Grand Avenue from the Conrad, and Frank Gehry designed both. This is his first hotel in California, 305 rooms with the lobby up on the 10th floor. San Laurel, José Andrés's Spanish restaurant, has open-air seats that face the concert hall. The pool is on the roof, on a 16,000 sq ft terrace, and check-in is at 3 pm, early enough for an afternoon up there. Book it when the building is part of the trip. Every price on Hilton's rooms screen includes a $43.32 Daily Mandatory Destination Charge per night. Part of that is a $15 food and beverage credit each day, so if you spend it, the charge works out to $28.32. The rest covers premium internet, a house car, lobby coffee and the Conrad Spa's dry sauna and tea blending bar, plus a few smaller extras. Valet is the only way to park, at $70 a day through LAZ Parking. With a car you're at $113.32 a night, or $98.32 once the credit is used. You have to be 18 to check in.
