McCormick Place sets the week, and the nights a show is in the halls are the ones that go. On Marriott Marquis's booking screen, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 December, the middle of the Midwest Clinic, came back sold out. The two Hiltons on East 11th Street, a 33-minute walk out, listed 13 and 11 rooms that Wednesday. Hilton's calendar for the Hilton Garden Inn McCormick Place shows 6 to 8, 14 and 16 to 18 November sold out, around AHA and SC26. The weekday matters less than the show: the Midwest Clinic runs Wednesday to Friday, and the National Restaurant Association Show runs Saturday to Tuesday. IMTS week in September 2026 lifted Chicago's average rate 28.2%, to $257.66, by CoStar's count.
January and February are the cheap months, with two shows cut out of them. Choose Chicago calls winter, January and February especially, the most budget-friendly time to visit, and Engine's public-rate averages for the city put January at $127, against $233 for the year and $319 for June. AHR Expo takes January 25 to 27, 2027 and the Auto Show takes February 13 to 21, and rates in those windows follow the show. December is soft too, at $154 on the same averages, apart from RSNA's last days up to the 3rd and the Midwest Clinic on the 16th to 18th. From April the shows stack up: HIMSS on April 5 to 8, which drew more than 24,000 last year, and the Restaurant Show on May 22 to 25.
Chicago's room tax is 18.9% on the screens we read, and on Marriott's screen it lands on the destination fee as well, so the Marquis's $30 costs $35.67 a night. Hyatt Regency McCormick Place charges $20. The other six screens we read showed none: SpringHill Suites Chicago Chinatown and all five Hiltons, on Cermak Road and East 11th Street. We could not read Jaslin or Best Western. Self-parking runs $40 a night at the Hyatt and the Marquis, with valet from $60, though another Marriott listing puts the Marquis at $39 and $54. The city's 23.25% parking tax may or may not be inside a posted rate. Marriott Marquis has a skybridge, and the Hyatt and the Cermak Road building are seven minutes out on foot, so the halls need no car. Downtown is about 2.5 miles north, and the Green Line stops at Cermak-McCormick Place.
In weeks with no show in the halls, and most reliably in January and February. Engine's public-rate averages for Chicago put January at $127 against $233 for the year. AHR Expo (January 25 to 27, 2027) and the Auto Show (February 13 to 21) are the exceptions.
The middle nights of a show. For the Midwest Clinic (December 16 to 18, 2026), Marriott Marquis's screen came back sold out for Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 December. Hilton's calendar for the Hilton Garden Inn McCormick Place shows 6 to 8, 14 and 16 to 18 November sold out. Shows on the calendar include ANCC Magnet (October 29 to 31), AHA (November 6 to 9), SC26 (November 15 to 20), RSNA (November 29 to December 3), AHR Expo (January 25 to 27, 2027) and the Auto Show (February 13 to 21, 2027).
Two of the eight we could read. Marriott Marquis charges $30 a night, which Chicago's 18.9% room tax takes to $35.67 on Marriott's screen. Hyatt Regency McCormick Place charges $20, subject to change. The other six showed no fee on their booking screens: SpringHill Suites Chicago Chinatown and all five Hiltons, on Cermak Road and East 11th Street. We could not read Jaslin or Best Western Grant Park.
Marriott Marquis is a 5-minute walk to McCormick Place West's King Drive entrance. Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and the three Cermak Road Hiltons are 7. Jaslin is 19, SpringHill Suites 21, Best Western Grant Park 32, and the two Hiltons on East 11th Street 33.
$40 a night to self-park at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and Marriott Marquis, and from $60 for valet, though another Marriott listing shows $39 and $54 at the Marquis. Hilton's pages for the Cermak Road hotels disagree, listing $52 to self-park on some and $59 or $62 for valet on others. Chicago's parking tax is 23.25%, and a posted rate may or may not include it, so ask.
Not for the halls. Marriott Marquis and the Cermak Road building connect by skybridge, and Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is a seven-minute walk. For downtown, the Loop is about 2.5 miles north, and the Green Line stops at Cermak-McCormick Place.
