Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Marriott lists skybridge access to McCormick Place from Marriott Marquis Chicago, and in winter that covered route is the reason to book it. The street route to the King Drive entrance takes five minutes. Read that as the walk to the building, because the halls are a longer walk inside. Downtown and the Mag Mile are about 2.5 miles north, so a night out means a rideshare or the Green Line, and pickups jam after events. There is no pool, and the bar closes early on nights with no event. Soundproofing is thin, and group noise carries in the corridors. Marriott's screen folds a $30 destination fee into the nightly rate, and Chicago's 18.9% room tax lands on the rate with the fee in it, so the fee costs $35.67. Marriott's what-to-expect page puts overnight self-parking at $40 and valet at $60 for 24 hours, though another Marriott listing says $39 and $54. Self-park four nights at $40 and the fee and parking come to $280 before tax on either, or $70 a night. The M Club lounge floor is $70 a night without elite status.
