Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Hampton Inn Chicago McCormick Place is the budget hotel among the three Hiltons sharing 123 East Cermak Road, and breakfast is free. A Hilton Garden Inn and a Home2 Suites take up the rest of the building. McCormick Place West's King Drive entrance is a seven-minute walk, and the Garden Inn's site says the building connects to the West Building by skybridge. Hilton's booking screen shows no mandatory fee, so a night costs the rate plus Chicago's 18.9% room tax. Parking is the expensive part. Hilton's info page lists valet only, at $62 a day. The hotel's own site points to paid self-parking in the lot behind the building, which has limited spaces, or at McCormick Place. Four nights of valet come to $248 before tax, and a guest who arrives by train or rideshare pays none of it. Around big shows the building sells out, and the Midwest Clinic holds a block here in mid-December. There is an indoor pool. Dogs and cats can stay, two per room, for $75 on a stay of one to four nights or $125 for five or more. Guests like the clean, spacious rooms. The windows don't open and there are no rollaway beds. Listings disagree on whether breakfast is a hot buffet or grab and go.
