Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
SpringHill Suites by Marriott Chicago Chinatown puts you on South Wentworth Avenue, with Chinatown's restaurants on foot and the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line stop close by. Marriott's booking screen showed no destination fee here. The Marriott Marquis charges $30 a night, so four nights here save you $120, or $142.68 once Chicago's 18.9% tax would have landed on it. The rooms are new and roomy, by guests' account, and the suite layout works for families; staff bring cribs and extra linens without being asked. Breakfast is free. Several guests liked it, and a couple found it basic. Parking is off-site. Marriott sends drivers to the Wentworth Parking Garage next door, 0.1 miles away, and warns that spots are limited and not guaranteed. Guests say it isn't free and the spaces are tight, so ask the hotel for the garage rate before you count on that $120. Some rooms take in street and train noise, and a few guests found the air conditioner loud. Housekeeping isn't always daily, so ask if you want it every day. Pets are not allowed. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is noon. McCormick Place West is a 21-minute walk (0.98 miles), 16 minutes more each way than from the Marquis.
