Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The West Building's King Drive entrance is a seven-minute walk from Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, and little else nearby will feed you. The rooms are large with good desks, and the higher floors look over the lake or the city. There is no spa and the indoor pool is small. Food costs hotel prices, and the alternative is a taxi or the No. 3 bus downtown. Pets are not allowed, and you must be 21 to check in. The bill starts with a $20 destination fee per night. Hyatt's screen marks it subject to change and says nothing about tax on it. Parking is charged whichever way you do it: $40 a night to self-park in the covered 600-space garage, in and out included, or from $60 for valet. Add the fee to self-parking and the room costs $60 a night more than its rate, $240 across a four-night show, before Chicago's 18.9% room tax and any parking tax. Hyatt's parking page lists vehicles up to 6 feet 3 inches, so a taller one needs a call first. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is noon.
