Uptown rates bottom out in August and climb past $190 in February and March

Uptown's average room rate fell to $153 in August 2025, at 58% occupancy, the lowest of the months we found in Houston First's reports. December 2025 came in around $163. January 2026 was quiet at 55% but still averaged $176, above September 2026's $172 at 62%. February 2026 reached $200 at 69%, when NAPE and the NCA All-Star championship filled the convention center downtown, and March 2025 hit 76% at $191 as the rodeo and CERAWeek landed on spring break. RODEOHOUSTON runs March 2 to 21, 2027 at Reliant Park (formerly NRG Park), and the Offshore Technology Conference follows there May 3 to 5. Neither is in Uptown, but Houston First credits the rodeo with strong gains here. We found no minimum stays or sell-out reports for the Galleria itself. Houston First reports this area as Uptown/Greenway Plaza.

The JW Marriott and both Westins showed a $25 Destination Fee already inside the rate, and at the JW that fee and the $69 valet come to $94 a night, with Marriott silent on whether the valet is taxed. The DoubleTree's screen adds 0.70% of the stay. Five others showed nothing, and the Post Oak Hotel's itemized a 17% hotel tax and no fee. The Royal Sonesta's screen wouldn't load. Valet, from $44 at the Chifley and the Marriott Uptown, outruns the fee almost everywhere, and the Hyatt Regency is valet only, at $49 overnight. The 17% is Houston's hotel tax: the city takes 7% and the state 6%, and Harris County and its sports authority split the last 4%.

No METRORail line reaches the Galleria, and no bus in any source we read runs straight from IAH or Hobby, so the airport leg is a taxi or rideshare unless you'll change buses. Once you're here, METRORapid's Silver Line covers Post Oak Boulevard for $1.25. Ten of the eleven hotels are within 14 minutes' walk of the mall, so a car mostly adds a parking bill. The Post Oak Hotel is the outlier at 23 minutes, and it publishes no parking price.

The Galleria and Uptown deal questions

When are Galleria and Uptown hotels cheapest?

August. Uptown's average rate was $153 in August 2025, against $200 in February 2026 and $191 in March 2025. December 2025 was the next lowest of the months we found, at about $163. January is quiet, at 55% occupancy in 2026, but its $176 average rate was higher than September 2026's $172. We found no weekday-versus-weekend split for Uptown, so price a weeknight against a Saturday before you book.

How much do fees and parking add at Galleria and Uptown hotels?

Up to $94 a night if you drive, among the hotels whose fees and parking we could read. Without a car, the six hotels with no fee line add nothing, and the JW and both Westins add their $25 fee. With a car, the JW is the top at a $25 Destination Fee plus $69 valet. Hotel Vesper is the bottom at $20 for self-parking, and the two Westins come to $25 with free self-parking. The DoubleTree's 0.70% charge applies with or without a car. The Post Oak Hotel publishes no parking price, and the Royal Sonesta's fee wasn't confirmed.

Which Galleria and Uptown hotels show no fee on the booking screen?

Six of the eleven: Hilton Houston Post Oak, Hyatt Regency Houston/Galleria, The Post Oak Hotel, Hotel Vesper, The Chifley and the Houston Marriott Uptown. Each screen was read on 28 October 2026 for the night of 17 November, and Hyatt's for 1 December too. The DoubleTree's screen shows a 0.70% mandatory charge, and the Royal Sonesta's wouldn't load, so its fee is unconfirmed.

Can you walk to the Galleria from these hotels?

Yes, in 0 to 23 minutes. The Westin Galleria is attached, the Westin Oaks is 3, the Hyatt Regency 4, the JW Marriott, DoubleTree, Hotel Vesper and Houston Marriott Uptown 8, the Chifley 9, the Hilton Post Oak 12, the Royal Sonesta 14 and The Post Oak Hotel 23. Times are routed on streets to the Galleria's West Alabama Street side or its Westheimer Road and Post Oak Boulevard corner.

Do I need a car at a Galleria hotel?

Not for the mall. Ten of the eleven hotels are within 14 minutes' walk, and METRORapid's Silver Line runs along Post Oak Boulevard for $1.25. From IAH or Hobby we found no direct bus, so plan on a taxi or rideshare unless you'll change buses.

How much hotel tax is added in the Galleria and Uptown?

17 percent, per Houston First, split between the state, the city, Harris County and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. The Post Oak Hotel's booking screen showed the same 17%, and the DoubleTree's says its price excludes taxes and government charges.
