Hotels in Philadelphia on New Year's Eve 2026, Near the Waterfront Fireworks

If you're staying for the waterfront fireworks on Thursday 31 December, 12 of the 13 hotels we read showed a room for that night alone. The other one, Residence Inn Philadelphia Center City, had nothing for the 31st by itself, though it did show rooms for 30 December to 1 January and for 29 December to 2 January. Two of the 13 sit on the river side of I-95, so you can reach the river without getting over the highway, and one of those, Holiday Inn Express Philadelphia Penn's Landing, is valet only on New Year's Eve. The other 11 are west of I-95, and two ways across are shut: the Chestnut Street bridge and the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge.

We read each hotel's own booking screen on the morning of 2 November 2026 for Thursday 31 December alone, 2 adults and 1 room, and we recorded no rates. Where a screen refused, we retried 30 December to 1 January and 29 December to 2 January. To count, a hotel needed a finished page on our site and a walk of 30 minutes or less to Penn's Landing, or, for the two river hotels, walks to Race Street Pier and Spruce Street Harbor Park. That left 13. Hotels without a finished page weren't read, among them four near Old City and the Loews on Market Street. Neither was anything farther out than these 13. Penn's Landing here means the east end of the Market Street footpath, by the RiverRink. Every hotel walk on this page is a normal-day route from OpenStreetMap foot routing. Crowds and event closures aren't in it. We read the screens 59 days out, and one can change the next day.

Chestnut and Walnut are closed, and PennDOT sends you by Market or Dock

I-95 and Columbus Boulevard run between Old City and the river. Walnut went first: the pedestrian bridge closed on 5 September 2023, and PennDOT said then that it would stay shut through summer 2027. Chestnut followed on Monday 15 January 2024, for demolition of the old cover over I-95 (PennDOT's notice of 26 December 2023, on parkatpennslanding.com). The work is the I-95 cap, which will be an 11.5-acre park over the highway and Columbus Boulevard between Chestnut and Walnut.

PennDOT's update of 26 October 2026, at 95revive.com, says people on foot and bike can get between Penn's Landing and Front Street by Dock or Market streets during construction. It says the South Street pedestrian bridge stays open with only minor interruptions. Every walk from a hotel west of I-95 to Penn's Landing crosses at Market in our routing, and every walk from those hotels to Spruce Street Harbor Park crosses at Dock. Our routes to Race Street Pier cross at Race Street from Center City and from most of Old City. PennDOT names Dock and Market, so the Race crossing is only what OpenStreetMap routed.

The two river hotels need no bridge to reach the water

The Holiday Inn Express is at 100 North Christopher Columbus Boulevard and Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing at 201 South, both east of I-95. On foot the Holiday Inn Express is 4 minutes from Race Street Pier. The Hilton is 2 from Spruce Street Harbor Park. The Holiday Inn Express to the park and the Hilton to the pier are 13 minutes each. We have no routed walk from either to Penn's Landing itself.

Visit Philly's guide to last year's show names both, among others, as hotels with views. We didn't check which rooms face the river, so ask for a river-facing room and have the hotel confirm it before you book.

The Holiday Inn Express lists on-site parking at $39 a day. Its IHG directions page, which we read on 2 November, says "New Years Eve is Valet only with no In and Out Privileges." The page gives no New Year's Eve valet price. Ask what it is before you book with a car. The Hilton lists $57 for self-parking and $69 for valet, per its hotel page.

Four Old City hotels are 11 to 13 minutes from Penn's Landing

Wyndham Philadelphia Historic District, at 400 Arch Street, is the closest of the four to Penn's Landing, 11 minutes by Market, and to Race Street Pier, 14. Spruce Street Harbor Park is 16. For that park, take Philadelphia Marriott Old City at 1 Dock Street: 6 minutes, against 13 to 16 from the other three. It's 12 to Penn's Landing, and Race Street Pier is 18 by Dock.

The Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown Hotel is at 401 Chestnut Street and the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia at 433. From either you go up to Market: 12 and 13 minutes to Penn's Landing. Race Street Pier is 17 and 18 minutes away, and Spruce Street Harbor Park 13 and 14. These four and the two river hotels are all on our Old City page.

Center City hotels are 25 to 30 minutes from Penn's Landing

Seven of the 13 are in Center City. By Market, Penn's Landing is 25 minutes from Hilton Garden Inn Philadelphia Center City and Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia Center City, 27 from Philadelphia Marriott Downtown and Home2 Suites by Hilton Philadelphia - Convention Center, PA, 28 from the Residence Inn and The Notary Hotel, Philadelphia, Autograph Collection, and 30 from Four Points by Sheraton Philadelphia City Center.

Race Street Pier is 24 to 32 minutes from these seven (the Four Points is nearest), and Spruce Street Harbor Park 28 to 34. That's a long walk on a December night. If you want to walk to the fireworks, book Old City or the river.

Only the Notary showed a hotel fee

The Notary's rate list for the 31st showed a $30 Destination Fee, inside the rate Marriott lists. The other 12 showed no hotel fee when we read them for 17 or 18 November, which isn't New Year's Eve. The Holiday Inn Express did list a $75 a night security deposit.

The shows are at 6 p.m. and midnight, as posted on 2 November

The organizer, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, posts 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Thursday 31 December, with two shows, at 6 p.m. and at midnight. That's as posted on 2 November, and it could change. Its page has the right date and weekday but still tells you to ring in 2026, so some of it may be left over from last year. With young kids, we'd pick the 6 p.m. show.

The page's free places to watch are Race Street Pier, Penn's Landing, Spruce Street Harbor Park, Pier 68 and Washington Avenue Pier. We measured walks to the first three only. It also names the Moshulu, Keating's Rope & Anchor, Spirit of Philadelphia, Independence Seaport Museum, Fringe Arts, Dave & Buster's and Rivers Casino. Check whether any of them charges. The page says KYW Newsradio carries soundtracks timed to both shows, on 1060 AM and 103.9 FM.

Visit Philly's page for last year's show said both shows ran rain or shine. It also said SEPTA bus routes 5, 12, 17, 21, 25, 33 or 42, or the Market-Frankford Line to 2nd Street, reach Penn's Landing, about a five-minute walk from the station. On 2 November we found no SEPTA notice for New Year's Eve 2026, so check SEPTA before counting on a late train.

On-site parking at the show will be limited

The organizer's page says on-site parking will be limited because of construction on the I-95 cap. It recommends walking the Delaware River Trail, biking it, rideshare or public transit. PennDOT also lists overnight beam-setting closures of a short section of northbound I-95 and Columbus Boulevard, due later this year through spring 2027, with detours announced beforehand. No dates are posted and nothing says any fall on New Year's Eve. A car or rideshare to the Hilton or the Holiday Inn Express uses Columbus Boulevard.

In Old City, the Wyndham's attached garage has 363 spaces with in and out privileges. The price isn't published. Off-site valet is $69 a day at the Marriott Old City and $65 a day at the Renaissance. The Kimpton's valet is $61 plus tax a night.

In Center City, the Hilton Garden Inn has covered self-parking at $40 a day on Hilton's hotel-info page, though other versions of the page have said $45 and $37. Canopy is valet only. So are the Residence Inn, at $57 a day based on availability, and the Notary, at $77.10 a day. The Marriott Downtown lists off-site valet at $72.58 a day and an off-site lot at $59 a day or $20 an hour. The Home2 Suites lists no parking at the hotel, and we couldn't confirm any at the Four Points.

The only New Year's Eve parking rule we found is the Holiday Inn Express's, so ask any other hotel whether its rate and access hold that night. Marriott's pages warn of limited parking at the Notary and the Marriott Downtown during special events and weekends.

Last year Visit Philly described an Overnight Package with free hotel parking worth up to $100 in Center City. We didn't confirm that package for 31 December 2026.
