Business travel slows in December, then New Year's Eve fills Sundance Square

At one point on October 27, the Embassy Suites showed all four room types it listed as sold out for Wednesday, November 11, and the Hilton three of the eight it listed. A weeknight downtown can fill. Fort Worth has no weekday-versus-weekend table that we found, only figures for the whole metro. A CBRE source quoted by Bisnow says business travel winds down for the holidays, and Engine's business-travel data for Dallas-Fort Worth, May 2024 to April 2026, has December as the cheapest month and June as the most expensive.

Last year's New Year's Eve party at Sundance Square ran until 2 a.m. with 55,000 expected, and this year's program isn't out yet. The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo comes next, 23 days that third-party sites list as January 15 to February 6, 2027, though the organizer hasn't posted dates. Its grounds, Will Rogers Memorial Center and Dickies Arena, are in the Cultural District rather than downtown, and the show says it draws more than 1.2 million visitors annually. A 2017 study put it at about 30,686 hotel room nights. The Cowtown Marathon weekend, February 26 to 28, puts 7 a.m. starts on the same campus two mornings running.

The Worthington's $20 Destination Fee, already inside the rate, was the only flat fee on the eleven booking screens we read. Kimpton Harper's screen itemized percentages instead: City Tax 9.8%, State Tax 6.5%, Venue Tax 2%, a Fort Worth PID Fee at 2% and a Texas Green Energy Fee at 4.5%, which adds up to $24.80 on every $100 of room rate. The city says the PID assessment covers hotels with 100 or more rooms and runs through September 30, 2027. Hilton's screens show a smaller percentage already inside the rate: a Texas Recovery Fee of 0.75% at the Hilton and 0.53% at the Embassy Suites. Taxes are extra. Overnight valet runs $37 to $69 a night on the hotels' pages, more than any flat fee here, and the city garage next to the Omni is $22 a vehicle with no in-and-out. TEXRail runs from DFW Airport's Terminal B to Fort Worth's T&P Station in 53 minutes for $2 one way.
