Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Silver Lyan, a cocktail bar, now fills the vault of the old Riggs National Bank, and the hotel occupies the bank's building at 900 F St NW with 181 rooms and suites. Meals are at Cafe Riggs. The gym has Peloton bikes and stays open around the clock for guests. Capital One Arena is 5 minutes away on foot. Per the hotel's own site, a $40 daily hotel fee goes on room bookings on top of hotel taxes and fees. Its booking screen for 10 November showed the fee as its own line, $40 for the night, with a $6 hotel fee tax on it. The fee pays for in-room mineral water and Nespresso, Wi-Fi, the gym and a Riggs tote bag. The hotel's site lists no self-parking and puts overnight valet at $64. Dogs of any size cost $100 a stay, non-refundable. You need to be 21 with ID to check in, from 4 PM. The hotel holds a refundable $100 a night for incidentals, and cash payers leave a $100-a-night deposit instead. Leaving early costs $50 on one of the hotel's pages and a night's room plus tax on the other.
