Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

La Maison in Midtown is a seven-room bed and breakfast in a three-story building put up in 2010. A Southern full breakfast or a continental one comes with the room, served 8 to 9:30 a.m. on weekdays and 9 to 10:30 on weekends. Parking is free, in a lot behind the building with its entrance on Brazos. Children are welcome only from age 12 and with an adult, and pets aren't accommodated. Check-in starts at 3 p.m. and checkout is 11. Midtown Park is nine minutes away on foot. The policies page prints the 17 percent occupancy tax on every room rate, and $15 per extra person per night in the two suites. Adding a suite to the cart for 17 November brought up taxes of 17 percent and no fee line. Cancel inside 72 hours and it's $50 on a one-night stay, or one night's room on a longer one.
