Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Best Western Grant Park Hotel sells its address. From 1100 South Michigan Avenue you can walk to Grant Park and the Museum Campus, and several guests called it decent value for somewhere this central. The building is older and the rooms show it. Street sound gets in at night through thin soundproofing and the air conditioning is loud, and guests bring up noise more than anything else. Some bathrooms have no extractor fan, and shower steam has set off the smoke alarm. A higher floor or a lake view made guests happier, so ask for one away from the street. Reception keeps luggage before check-in and after checkout, though some guests found the desk cool. During trade shows some guests felt the rates ran too high for the rooms, and McCormick Place West is a 32-minute walk (1.48 miles). The first prices bestwestern.com shows carry no taxes or fees. The full quote for one night on November 4 added an 11.9% state tax, a 4.5% city tax, a 1% county tax and a 1.5% Tourism Improvement District fee, and no resort fee. Breakfast and parking both cost extra.
