Location is the thing you're actually buying here. The Aloft sits a short walk from Metromover and Metrorail stops, Mary Brickell Village and a run of restaurants, which is why business travelers and pre-cruise and post-cruise guests keep landing on it. Front-desk staff get named personally in review after review, including inside otherwise angry ones. The rooms are where it slips. The most repeated complaint is that they're small and tired: barely room for luggage, worn furniture, loose shower strips and shampoo dispensers, dim bathroom lighting. City noise carries into the rooms, and most guests deal with it by running the A/C to cover the sound. Now the part the headline rate hides. Parking is valet at $40.00 a day, and Marriott lists no self-park option at all, so guests treat it as a fixed add-on rather than a choice. Three nights is $120 before tax. Marriott also doesn't publish a destination fee for individual bookings, though its group-sales pitch advertises not having one, so ask what yours includes. Book it if you want to walk to dinner and the train and can live small. Skip it if you need space, or need confidence that a billing problem after checkout gets answered.
