Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Which room you land in matters more here than at most South Beach hotels. The location does the heavy lifting: guests consistently single it out as a top reason to book, and the Spanish Art Deco courtyard and rooftop pool photograph the way the listing promises. Staff warmth is the other thing reviewers repeat, often naming individual front desk and bar people by name. Then you open the room door. The same complaint recurs across many reviews: rooms run very small, and the cheaper courtyard facing categories read dim and musty rather than cozy. Several of the bar outlets sit on the roof, so those lower rooms also catch bass and crowd noise past 1am, and asking staff to turn it down doesn't reliably fix it. Service swings stay to stay too: booked kings arriving as queens, multi hour waits for a room, free bikes and welcome drinks offered to some guests and never mentioned to others. Budget the extras before you compare rates. The resort fee is $40 plus tax per room per night, and parking is valet only, $45 a day for a car or $55 for an SUV. That's $85 a night on top for a car, $170 across a weekend, $190 in an SUV. A dog adds a $250 cleaning fee. It suits design minded couples and small groups who want a walkable base and won't be in the room much. Light sleepers should look elsewhere.

Esmé Miami Beach FAQ

Does Esmé Miami Beach charge a resort fee?

Yes, $40 plus tax per room, per night. It covers beach access with two chairs a day, the rooftop pool, the 24-hour fitness center, Wi-Fi and concierge service. Guests regularly flag that these extras land at checkout rather than in the quoted rate, so add it before you compare.

Is there parking, and what does it cost?

Valet only, $45 a day for a car and $55 for an SUV. The hotel runs no self-parking. Valet bills per 24-hour period with in/out privileges, so a day visit and an overnight cost the same. The hotel's FAQ mentions street parking through the city's ParkMobile app, but that's municipal and no rate is published for it.

How far is the beach?

Walkable. Location is what guests consistently rate as the property's strongest point, with guests describing the sand, Lincoln Road and the Art Deco district as a short walk from 1438 Washington Avenue. The hotel doesn't publish a distance or walk time. Your chairs are covered either way: two a day come with the resort fee.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4pm, check-out is 11am. The 4pm time is guaranteed and early check-in depends on availability, which matters here because guests report multi hour waits for rooms. You need to be 21 with a photo ID and a payment method.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, one dog up to 25 lbs, with a $250 non-refundable cleaning fee. That fee is waived for certified service dogs. Dogs can't be left alone in the room, and you're liable for damage or disturbance.

Is it worth booking last minute?

Yes if you're booking the location and plan to be out most of the day. Ask for a street facing or higher category room: the cheap courtyard rooms are the small, dim ones, and they sit under the rooftop bars that run past 1am. Add $85 a night for the resort fee plus car valet when you compare it against anything else.
