Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Government-rate guests at the Royal Sonesta don't pay the daily destination fee. Everyone else pays $35 a day plus applicable taxes, per the hotel's own site; we have not read its booking screen yet, because the hotel page shows no booking-engine link. The fee comes with Wi-Fi, two bottled waters, coffee and espresso, local and long-distance calls and a $12 daily food and beverage credit. Spend the credit and the fee's net cost drops to $23. Union Station is a 5-minute walk from 20 Massachusetts Ave NW. Check-in is 4 PM and checkout 11 AM. Pets of any breed or size are welcome, up to two per suite, for $75 a stay. Overnight valet is $65 with 24-hour in-and-out privileges, and no self-parking is listed. Overnight valet plus the fee comes to $100 a night before tax on either. A daytime valet is $30 from 6 AM to 6 PM. Level 2 EV chargers in the valet area are free for overnight valet guests, though the valet charge still applies and you are asked to move the car when it finishes.
