Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The Hay-Adams describes itself on its homepage as the place "where nothing is overlooked but the White House," and Lafayette Square is a 1-minute walk from the door. Dogs up to 25 pounds are welcome. The FAQ page doesn't mention a pet fee, and the hotel asks you to contact it before completing a reservation. Valet is the only parking: $90 overnight with in-and-out privileges, a price the hotel quotes inclusive of 18% tax, and the highest of the ten downtown hotels that publish one. Short-term valet is $45, or $20 with validation from The Lafayette, the hotel's restaurant. The booking screen for 17 to 19 November added the District's 15.95% room tax and nothing else, so that $90 is the only nightly extra. It would not sell a single night on 17 or 18 November or 1 December; two nights from the 17th went through.
