Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Every suite at this WoodSpring has a full kitchen, and nothing to cook with. Cookware and dishes are sold at the front desk, and so is a linen exchange. The rest of the building is just as spare. Housekeeping comes every two weeks, and WoodSpring lists no pool, only a fitness center and a guest laundry. Guests find the rooms clean and bare. The bed is the complaint that comes up most, usually because it's too firm, and a few people smelled smoke in a building that is supposed to be smoke-free. Staff and the location get the warmest words: it's quiet, yet close to I-4 and Universal. There's a Walmart nearby, which matters if you're here for a week of convention work and would rather stock the fridge than eat out on International Drive every night. WoodSpring puts the Orange County Convention Center about a mile away, but I-4 is in between, and the walk goes round by Turkey Lake Road: 3.5 miles, about 79 minutes. No shuttle is listed, so plan to drive. A family on a park week will miss having a pool at night. Anyone who wants the room made up each day should book elsewhere. WoodSpring lists free parking, and its booking screen adds tax to the room and nothing else, so with a car the bill is the rate plus tax. Watch the clock on your last morning, because the chain's FAQ says staying past 11 AM without extending can cost up to $50.
