Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

This is the big convention-center Hilton, and it earns the resort label. Two outdoor pools, an 892-foot lazy river with water cannons, a splash zone, cabanas, and sports courts spread across 26 landscaped acres. Seven places to eat and drink mean you rarely have to leave, and eforea, the 15,000-square-foot spa, is there when the parks wear you out. A covered walkway drops you onto the south side of the Orange County Convention Center, so if you're here for a show, the walk is about as short as it gets. That convention DNA is also the catch. When a big event fills the OCCC, the lobby, elevators, and pool deck fill with lanyards, and room rates climb with them. Time your trip to a quiet week and the same building feels calm. Budget past the room rate, too: a $47 daily resort charge and $38 self-parking (valet is $50) add up fast. The charge does earn its keep. It bundles WiFi, the lazy river, two I-Ride Trolley passes, and a roundtrip shuttle to Disney's Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Just note that shuttle skips Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Universal, and you're a couple of miles from the I-Drive dining core. Best for convention-goers who want the walkway, and families who'll swim the lazy river enough to justify the fees.

Convention Center district, at the quieter south end of International Drive. A covered walkway wires you straight into the Orange County Convention Center, and you're about a mile from Universal's Epic Universe with SeaWorld and Aquatica close by. The I-Drive restaurant and attraction core sits a couple of miles north, so plan on the trolley, the shuttle, or a car to reach it.

How much is the resort charge and what does it cover?

It's $47 per night plus tax. It bundles WiFi, the lazy river and recreation, two daily I-Ride Trolley passes, and a roundtrip shuttle to Disney's Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Parking is separate: $38 self, $50 valet, both plus tax.

Does the hotel run a shuttle to the theme parks?
