This is the tower people book the night before a cruise, and it's good at that job. A 652-room bayfront high-rise on Biscayne Bay, with the water and skyline views, large well-kept rooms, and staff who get called friendly and attentive across thousands of reviews. The rooftop pool and the club lounge are the standouts, and breakfast draws more praise than the category usually earns. Then there's the part the headline rate hides. There's no self-parking here. Valet is the only option, at $58 a night for a regular vehicle and $68 for oversized, both before tax and service charge. A $40 nightly resort fee stacks on top, also before tax. That's close to $98 a night in mandatory extras, and plenty of guests meet those numbers for the first time at checkout. The fee does hand some back: Wi-Fi, the 24/7 fitness center, the steam room and sauna, a $15 credit at Toro Toro and a $25 credit at mySpa. Use both credits and it stings a lot less. The other recurring gripe is noise. Rooms near the elevator banks and busy corridors carry sound, and one guest describes staff handing out box fans instead of the walls doing the work. Ask for something off the elevator bank. Best for pre-cruise nights, IHG regulars chasing a bay-view or lounge upgrade, and business travelers who'd valet anyway. Fee-averse drivers who want to park their own car should look elsewhere.

It isn't a beach hotel. You're on the Biscayne Bay waterfront in downtown Miami, next to Bayside and a short hop from PortMiami, which is why so many guests use it the night before a cruise. Getting to Miami Beach is a separate trip.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is noon. Recent reviews flag slow check-in late at night when only a couple of agents are working the desk, including one guest who waited about 10 minutes at midnight, so build in a buffer if you land late.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, one dog per room, with a $100 one-time non-refundable cleaning fee and no stated weight limit. Dogs stay leashed everywhere except your room, can't be left alone, and are kept out of the restaurants, health club, meeting space and pool area. The hotel also references a nightly pet fee in its promotions but never publishes the amount, so ask when you book.

Is the InterContinental Miami worth it?

Yes, if a bay view and a rooftop pool downtown are what you want and the parking math doesn't bother you. Guest feedback is strong and consistent, and the complaints cluster on cost and elevator-bank noise rather than the hotel itself. Budget about $98 a night on top of the room before tax: $40 resort fee plus $58 valet.
