A 1925 bank building is the reason to book this one, and also the reason some guests grumble. The Beaux Arts landmark at 121 SE 1st St was once the Miami National Bank, and its 126 rooms keep the oak floors and vintage detailing that make the listing photos work. Reviews are broadly positive, and the front desk earns repeat credit for early check-ins and bag storage. Two complaints repeat just as reliably. Rooms run small for a 4-star listing, and the glass bathroom wall comes up again and again from people sharing a room, since there's no way to fog it. Street noise is the third regular gripe, so ask for a high floor away from SE 1st. Then the math. The operator publishes no resort fee of any kind, which is unusual in Miami and saves you money. Valet parking, though, costs $64.20 a night with taxes included, so three nights with a car adds $192.60 and wipes out that saving several times over. Fly in or sail out and this is a sharp downtown base, roughly 3.5 miles from PortMiami. Bring a car and parking will shape the bill. One caveat on older reviews: the rooftop bar they rave about is currently listed as temporarily closed.

Downtown Miami's financial district, on SE 1st St between the courthouse blocks and Biscayne Boulevard. Bayfront Park and Bayside Marketplace are a short walk east, HistoryMiami and the James L. Knight Center are a few blocks west, and the free Metromover has stations within a couple of blocks that connect you south into Brickell. It's a weekday business district, so the streets are busiest during office hours and the restaurant scene skews toward lunch. Miami International is roughly 15 minutes by car, PortMiami about 3.5 miles.
