Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Best Western's own page calls this the middle of South Beach. It's 41st and Collins, in Mid-Beach, about 2.6 miles from the Art Deco district, so the South Beach you pictured is a bus ride away. What you actually get is beachfront: the boardwalk runs right past the property, and location is what nearly every positive review is about, along with the pool and the beach chairs and umbrellas guests describe as part of the stay. The rooms drag guest opinion down. Recurring complaints are consistent: dated and worn, carpets that hold Miami humidity, tight bathrooms, air conditioners that run loud and won't hold a setting. Service comes in for its own share of complaints too. Then the money. Best Western folds the $30 per day resort fee into the rate it displays, with taxes on top, so that one won't ambush you at checkout. Parking will: $45 a night in a small onsite garage, and once it fills you're directed to a garage two blocks away with no published rate. Flying in and using rideshares, your fee stack is $30 a day. Driving, it's $75 a night before tax. Cruise passengers and beach-first travelers get the most out of this one.

Best Western Plus Atlantic Beach Resort FAQ

Does Best Western Plus Atlantic Beach Resort charge a resort fee?

Yes, $30.00 per day. Best Western builds it into the room rate it shows you rather than adding it at the desk, and its own wording says additional taxes and fees apply on top. The operator doesn't say whether the $30 is per room or per person, or whether it's quoted before tax.

How much is parking, and is there a cheaper option?

$45 a night to self-park in the onsite garage. That garage is limited, and once it fills guests are directed to a garage about two blocks away with no published rate. Best Western mentions a 10% discount off the self-parking rate but doesn't spell out who qualifies. No valet rate and no day-only rate are published, so budget $45 plus tax per night if you're driving.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

4:00 PM in, 12:00 PM out. Some reviews describe long waits past 4:00 for a room to be ready, so if you land early, plan on a bag drop and an hour on the sand rather than a shower and a nap.

Can I bring my dog?

No. Pets aren't accepted at all, so there's no pet fee to weigh. If you're travelling with a dog, this one is off the list before price enters into it.

Is this hotel actually in South Beach?

No, it's in Mid-Beach, at 41st and Collins. Google puts it 2.6 miles from the Miami Beach Architectural District and 1.8 miles from the convention center, with the Fontainebleau a few minutes up Collins. You're on the sand either way, but Ocean Drive is a bus or rideshare, not a walk.

Is it worth booking last minute?

Yes if you want to be on the beach and can live with a dated room. The recurring complaints are wear, cleanliness lapses and loud air conditioning units, not the location or the beach access. Add $30 a day for the resort fee, plus $45 a night if you're parking, then compare the all-in figure against nearby Mid-Beach options.
