Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Rooms at the Ven feel worn despite the renovation, and sound carries, so ask for one away from the hallway. Bathrooms and closets are small. The lobby is the high point, with an art gallery and a shop of local goods. At 366 meters it is the second-closest hotel here to Dupont Circle, five minutes on foot. It was the Embassy Row Hotel until its 2021 rebrand into Marriott's Tribute Portfolio, and older listings still use that name. No fee line appeared on Marriott's November 17 rate list, though a car costs $60 a day there, self-parking or valet alike, per Marriott's page for the hotel. The restaurant is Fred & Stilla, and the fitness center is open 24 hours. One pet is allowed per room, up to 50 pounds, and there is no shuttle. The rooftop terrace has an outdoor pool and cabanas that run seasonally, and one reviewer put that season at May through September.
